Especially in America. I agree: this is one of the most shocking things to me. I don't know if you read that letter, but I actually did after many people were claiming there was "some truth in it". It's full of vile antisemitic rhetoric, parroting Hitler's talk about how Jews corrupt the world etc... and how America must apply Shariah law or be destroyed. There is NOTHING right about that letter. To see some so-called "progressives" give him reason, even partially is beyond insane to me. I made a thread about it here and was shocked to see that some people were saying that too. People said the letter gave them an "existential crisis". Actually it's the fact people were supporting and sharing such letter is what gave me an "existential crisis". People need to wake up and start promoting actual solutions instead of "America bad" nonsense that's pushing people to support literally anyone who opposes America now, even terrorists. Especially in America. While it is problematic, I wouldn't take the reactions to his letter as a sign of the population actually embracing any meaningful radical mindsets that he stood for. From my point of view, the "oh yeah he was kinda right here" attitude is directed towards the disillusionment of the USA. We're constantly fed the idea that the nation does what it does because we're the good guys and punish the bad guys through the media as well as public schools. People are learning that it's a fairytale and we ruin societies for sport; that's enough to break some brains for a minute. This is my Hannah Montana™️ lipgloss. Very this. I was raised in the south to believe "well, America is just the gosh darn best country in the whole wide world. It's a shame the people in the Middle East hate us for our freedom. They're jealous villains, we have to stop them at any cost" Then I grew up and realized NAH LMAO. The US is one of the most violent and toxic superpowers in the world. Read all 8 pages of it and ask yourself if it's worth promoting, even partially, for any reason whatsoever. When it's something that parrots nazi germany's manifesto and promotes shariah law which would literally have gays executed and women subjugated, there is NEVER an excuse. People can find better examples to discuss disillusionment of the USA, rather than a nazi terrorist letter. The language is so offensive, that I'm pretty sure if I post quotes here I'd probably receive WPs. So yeah no excuse for that nonsense. And yet there were these leftist tiktokers starting a trend "Bin Laden was right", only because they liked a couple of sentences said about Palestine. So I guess nevermind all the nazi, antisemitic, homophobic crap in the rest of the letter, let's share it! It reflects bad on the democratic party and helps republicans. Especially when polling was showing that 2022 and 2023 elections were going to be bloodbaths for Democrats and the opposite happened. Likewise 2020, was showing a much bigger performance from Democrats than what actually happened. Not to mention 2016’s notable miss. Reality is pollsters can’t find a good methodology anymore to get accurate results because Millenials and gen z don’t like to answer the phone especially to numbers they don’t recognize. That being said, there is definitely a big pushback against the perceived excesses of the left, young Americans do not support Bidens foreign policy and military aid to embattled countries and he generally is thought of as a weak and incompetent leader who inspires no confidence. The Israel/Palestine situation has exposed some pretty vile antisemitism on the part of leftists. Personally, I cant stand either party and I think the whole rotten system needs reform but I will still be voting for Biden because he is the lesser of two evils. This, plus Biden's age and handling of the Israeli-Hamas war, are huge factors... The thing is though, people are wearing rose-coloured glasses and are largely ignorant of how bad Trump REALLY is. All I'm saying is the vast majority of the young people simplifying the hashtag to "Bin Laden was right" is referring to the disillusionment and not the whole letter. There at things to learn from almost any piece of literature, even if it's different than what the writer intended. But without context and nuance, it does look incredibly bad. You can find MUCH BETTER literature to talk about U.S foreign policy's problems. We're better off just disavowing the behavior of those people rather than justifying it. I think you're reading too hard into what I'm saying. I didn't justify the trend. Besides, you're the only one here suggesting to read the letter The trend you mentioned was driven by a dumbed down phrase for clicks. The context and nuance of the conversation was the Young American realization that he was a monstrous human capable of producing a fourth of a point within 8 pages of filth and not just the big bad cartoon monster attacking Lady Liberty™️.
