But I refuse to believe that whole 2021 resurface (the petition, ARTPOP going #1 in multiple countries, DJWS revealing things about ACT II such as there being 40 (40!!!!!!) finished/almost-finished songs, DJWS playing the intro to TEA at JWT Fenway Park, etc.) was all for nothing.

Most albums usually have that many leftover songs, that's how it works. They record a lot and a lot of songs til they find the one that maybe it's the start of the core sound of that album then go from there. Albums like The Fame and Born This Way had to have several of these, even Chromatica. The thing about ARTPOP is that she intended to be a Volume 2, they weren't just leftovers, or maybe they are now, it's been 10 years. It's pretty clear she has moved on.

Maybe Gaga tried but there's several legal stuff going on that doesn't allow her to just drop them. DJWS posted today that there are 20+ entities that have to be aligned for the project to happen so that means it's not just Gaga, Paul and one Interscope person saying "Yes, release them".

The Fame Monster

I've been feeling for a while now that Gaga isn't keen on releasing her old stuff, at least not right now. She's quite self-critical about her work and prefers to share only what she's confident about and what resonates with her presently. Remember what happened with "The Greatest Thing" that Cher wanted to release but couldn't because Gaga wasn't satisfied with it?

Picture yourself as a young artist, maybe a painter. You did a bunch of sketches in 2013 that no one has seen. Since then, you've created much better pieces that people really liked, and now you're a well-known artist. When you're at the peak of your career, would you really want to publish those old sketches when you know you can do much better now?

Gaga is focused on what lies ahead for her. It doesn't necessarily mean she won't look back someday and appreciate the old unreleased music, maybe even release some of it. But for now, it's clearly not the right time; perhaps in the future, it will be.

Personally, I'm way more excited about her next, completely new album than anything else.
