Overall I would stick pick "Frozen" as her contender for best song of all time Nahhhhhh no way frozen would be when it’s lowkey the most derivative of Homogenic which came out the year prior. Great song! But bjork 100% does the sound better and a song like bachelorette I’m sorry edges out frozen imo

proxy 851
I think is one of the best of all time, and it's probably my favorite Madonna song. Frozen, Live to tell, Oh father, Papa don't preach, The power of good bye, Ray of light, Vogue, La Isla bonita, Music, Drowned World / Substitute For Love, Deeper And Deeper, Sorry, Hung Up, Into the groove, Open your heart, are all perfect pop song's. Give me a list I never listened to her Id say if you’re into frozen listen to Homogenic (the album the came a year prior and you can see HEAVILY inspired the sound (no shade; it’s in a good way and Madonna does her own thing with it that’s amazing) and vespertine. Total opposite of Homogenic. Much quieter and intricate beats but carries a lot of the coldness of Frozen. If you aren’t into bjork’s VERY idiosyncratic singing it might not be for you. But I encourage you to listen with a close ear not a casual one bc I think bjork’s music tends to be best appreciated that way initially. The musicality she puts into her songs is just stunningly original and gorgeously passionate. Like fire in ice. songs like bachelorette and Immature and Jóga especially you can see the inspo very much imo (in fact, the album run from Hunter-bachelorette has a kind of frozen vibe to it come to think of it). If you’re a pop girlie, though, vespertine may be the one you like a little more bc I think some of its melodies veer more pop. Pagan poetry is a bjork all time great, but casual people tend to love unison, it’s not up to you, and undo from that album as well. idk why it isn’t mentioned more, but a lot of Madonna’s 90s work was still drawing from the London scene and bjork in particular since she basically dominated the mid-late 90s electronic scene kinda by accident. Bjork wrote bedtime stories, for instance. Madonna has always had a lot of respect for bjork and her artistry (which has not always been very reciprocated but never in a mean way lol). But yeah Madonna’s greatest strength imo has always been that she has exceptional taste. Even when an album is bad she’s truly someone who has an ear to what’s happening and makes music inspired by it before too many others. Even Madame X had her tapping some Reggaeton which for a 50 something white lady to do is lowkey impressive bc a lot stay in one groove that works for decades. if the funnel of music goes from underground to mainstream, I’d say you get underground, emerging trend-bjork, then madonna (at least at that time). and again, so stans don’t come for me, ray of light is an amazing album that imo is made all the better when you can see who and what influenced it and how. beli8 1,424
Its incredibly hard to pick a favorite Madonna song, but most often my answer is Like a Prayer also. Frozen is also a masterpiece and I feel so lucky to have been in my music-listening/watch MTV all day-prime when it came out so I absorbed the heck out of it and that whole era. Ugh, the memories.
