Gaga avoided a mess from being cast in any MCU films :lmao:

She also avoided a mess from being cast in any of the live action Disney remakes :lmao:

She truly always wins and knows what’s best for her career, despite what the Little Monstrosities think :lmao:

This is SO real. She either has has an EXCELLENT agent or Bobby has insane taste. I’m betting the latter honestly.

Marvel got WAY to big to control, the balancing act was bound to falter.

What made the MCU exciting was allowing breathing room before the next project. The conversations and speculation for the next big movie, the ability to rewatch before

After Endgame, Marvel should have lowered the stakes, dialled it back a bit. Instead they turned it up way to high, and made way to many side stories. It’s become “ANYTHING and EVERYTHING will happen”.

Kevin Fiege needs to course correct.

I’ll be so frustrated if we never get a real X-Men TEAM movie. There’s been so many glimpses in the past. But Hugh JacOman returning as Wolverine AGAIN makes me nervous. It’s always been Wolverine and his sidekicks.

James Gunn, this is your opportunity to swoop in and steal the crown with the upcoming 'DCU' (formerly DCEU) reboot. It's time to give the infinitely more interesting source material & characters what they deserve. :ororomunroe: Don't **** it up!

I mean, let's not act like Joker 2 is a guaranteed hit. In fact, it's actually an incredibly risky the film. The first movie was already divisive, many people think that it doesn't even need a sequel, the musical aspect turns a lot of people off, and there are still some people who don't like Gaga's casting.

Out of any comic book universe she could've picked, DC Elseworlds was probably the best bet for her because they're a lot more artistic and free of any shared cinematic universe, but that doesn't mean that Joker 2 won't be a mess. Let's hope it's not.

I wouldn’t call the first movie incredibly divisive. There is a vocal minority but the movie itself scored a billion dollar box office hit, received generally great reviews, and major awards. It received flack from some critics due to its social commentary and political statements which are mostly in line with Gaga’s general views. It is risky and will likely be controversial but there is a strong foundation for a good film with a lot of talent behind it that have had fairly consistent, good track records. Whether people love it or hate it. A lot of people will talk about it and want to watch how a superhero(villain) musical turns out especially since the first was very politically charged. Fairly par for the course with Gaga, especially her pop career from The Fame to ARTPOP. I anticipate no matter what Gaga will get some hate from certain crowds; I see them still surfacing for her collaborating and performing with The Rolling Stones and U2. As well as some people that will needlessly pit her against Margot Robbie’s interpretation of Harley.

Anyway, on topic, Marvel please deliver X-men and Fantastic Four sooner rather than later please. I think they are getting a bit too lost in the sauce deep diving into things that only appeal to Marvel fanatics and people deeply invested in the universe. I think it’s great for the fans that they get such a deep exploration into the lore in a live action setting and the storylines that they are getting. However, some are just more so interested in a surface level and don’t care as much about the deeper lore, fanservice, and multiverses. There needs to be a better balancing act as I feel any of their major recognizable brands like GotG 3 requires multiple films to fully understand what is going on while the simpler ones are completely unknown and haven’t packed the same punches as before.

How they have all the money in the world and didn't see the overexposure of the MCU through the constant content cycle coming is beyond me. They literally just need to take a beat, release everything they need to and then come back swinging (maybe Christmas '26/27) with a new vision and plan, less projects and better cgi.

Bringing back past actors is so obviously just a money grab and is lame, just put all that money into good films with promotion that people will actually want to see.

The bar to entry is also becoming too high, if you haven't watched everything then you are confused, these pieces of media in some ways should be able to stand alone.

There is hope for them but they really need to pull it together asap

It got 69% on Rotten Tomatoes, 59 on Metacritic, and it has a B+ CinemaScore. It is a divisive film. Even anecdotally, you have people who either really love the film or really hate it. I've seen many people who say that they don't like the film or that Joaquin's their least favorite live-action Joker because he's really barely "Joker" at all; he doesn't resemble his comic book counterpart that much aside from his appearance. It did get a lot of Oscar nominations and even some major wins, but there have also been controversial or divisive movies that have been nominated for the Oscars before.

Like I said, I think Gaga IS a great fit for Joker, and out of all the comic book universes she could've chosen, going the DC Elseworlds is probably her best bit. That said, the success of the movie is going to be an uphill battle. There's a lot of things going against it. It's a risky film, and if it works, I truly think it'll be a huge success. But if it doesn't, it's also going to be a major flop. People will talk about it regardless though. The movie is so high profile and the concept is just so bonkers for a lot of people that it'll definitely get people talking.

Reviewers were divided about it before release. Mainly due to their personal biases regarding the social commentary/political statements which again err on the side of Gaga’s personal beliefs anyway. Most of the reviews were aimed at the commentary of mental health and wealth disparities and disagreeing with that notion. User/audience reviews were extremely positive with an 88 on Rotten Tomatoes. It also won several awards and earned a billion dollar box office.

But it was divisive, was it not? Sure, reviewers put their own personal biases into the film even before seeing it, but regardless of how they chose to review the film, it still was divisive.

And to be honest, I frankly don't trust audience reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. The problem is that audience reviews represent a small fraction of the general movie-going audience. Sure, you could say that about critics as well, but it's different with audiences because the people who actively choose to write a review for RT are super passionate about the film. Ideally, critics are nonbiased. I know that we just discussed how the critics might've put their own personal biases reviewing Joker, but again, ideally, they are unbiased. RT doesn't give an idea of how general audiences feel about the film, it gives an idea of how the hardcore or super passionate fans feel. And that can be either positive or negative. That's why you also have people who review bomb films. That section of the audience feels passionate enough to lower a movie's score when the reality is that most of the general audience doesn't care.

And again, I'm not taking away the fact that it won several awards or that it was a huge box-office success. But none of that disproves that the film was divisive. There are plenty of divisive films that make a ton of money and some that even get nominated for Oscars. The two aren't mutually exclusive.

Joker 1 was absolutely divisive, I don't even know why there's a debate on that. And no, a lot of the conversation wasn't people upset because of their personal biases; a lot of critics and audience members felt it was not a "Joker" film and had no reason to be linked to the DC brand because the story and characters were completely divorced from the source material. There were also criticism with the way Arthur was portrayed and how viewers were supposed to react to his character arc. A lot of people responded well, a lot of people didn't. Among those two groups, there were several that said it was the kind of film you never needed to watch more than once.

That being said, I could see Joker 2 being commercial successful (unless it's insanely bad). But critically? We'll have to wait and see. The world is a very different place now, and I'm actually more concerned with the political landscape of the US impacting the film's release in a very negative way lol. 2024 elections will be weeks after the release of the film and...yeah...

SpadesToStart

They should have taken a two year brake after Endgame to leave people wanting more and really plan out their next era. I’ve permanently checked out of the MCU.
