Shadow 6,707
Back in 1971, the US dollar was no longer backed by gold thanks to President Nixon. Look up the Bretton Woods international financial exchange system and why it was important after WW2 and how free floating fiat currencies became dominant. They just borrow and print money... Is it any wonder why life got expensive in areas like housing and college tuition? The rich can afford to keep up with the inflation while the middle and lower classes get squeezed. Stand in the light, cast your shadow.

Yeah im very familiar with the dropping of the Gold Standard and the increased influence Central Banks gained after that around the world (most other Countries also had some version of a gold standard, Switzerland was the last Country to fully drop it) It has some advantages. But if not managed very carefully and responsibly can also be handled in a way to promote unsustainable spending, bubbles and other distortions that currency backed by gold (or another valuable finite comodity) did not allow... Fiat currencies can be good if handled properly and responsibly as it offers more flexibility... but since when do Governments ever do things responsibly thinking about the good of everyday ppl for the long term instead of short term political gain?
