It was shocking for audiences to see such a thing in the 1930s. It was considered an instant masterpiece and is one of the most important films ever made. I get what you mean, but Disney really looks at the movie, or more so characters, as IP. They’re doing these remakes to revitalize old IP that they’re afraid is becoming less popular with children- IP they have invested too much money into to lose. Even if the movie doesn’t do particularly well, the merchandising will go up and the character itself will become a bit more popular again. People might even appreciate the original more.
