Nicki Minaj announced that she will not drop her upcoming studio album Pink Friday 2 on her rescheduled date as planned. Minaj went live on Instagram and explained that she made the decision to push the release date awhile ago due to shipping issues for the vinyl copies of her album.

“We ended up not being able to get the vinyls in time for first week, and they were actually available for December 1st, the following week,” Minaj explained. “So, I chose between December 1st and my birthday, and I chose my birthday.”

Nicki Minaj's Pink Friday 2 will now arrive on her birthday, December 8.

The project was originally set to drop on October 20 but she pushed the album back when she announced the album title over the summer.

She set the new date for November 17, which is also the same day that Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz are dropping their joint album Welcome 2 ColleGrove. Minaj emphasized that she made her decision to move her album back before Wayne and 2 Chainz announced their album.

Probably bcs lil wayne suddenly announced his album for the same date as well… Nicki wants to do anything to go #1 and I kinda dont blame her, she always gets blocked by these male rappers who suddenly decide to release

Ed Sheeran once said that there are only 3 factories producing vinyl in the world. I really think what with the demand for vinyl in the age of revitalised vinyl, the sheer volume of artists requesting it and the amount of times that vinyls haven't been shipped in time that there needs to be at least one more factory made and make it close to major labels HQ. Vinyl delays are probably the second most frequent reason for why albums are getting pushed back right now and something needs to change.

It's a supply and capacity issue. Not only are vinyls in demand now, but there's been a huge shortage of PVC to make them over the past few years.

it was in 2021. since then new pressing plants have been opened and vinyl pressing is no longer taking 6-9 months. She was not going to release it in November and vinyl delay is just an excuse.

I wonder if that's still a problem. I remember that being an issue in 2021 because of COVID and they were trying to get ABBA, Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, Adele and Taylor Swift's vinyls just in time so no wonder they had too much going on, especially at such a bad time during the pandemic.

Plus the people primarily affected were smaller acts & indie acts - the ones who basically survive off of physical album sales.

Taylor, Ed, Adele etc were able to buy their way through the queue, pump out ridiculous numbers of vinyl copies & this made the backlog far worse for the little folks
