Aglaya 8,388
I just wish the whole "tribe" thing from Chromatica was explored besides the SL mv. It seemed so interesting, but then in the 911 mv there were no colored tribes anymore could mean anything
thatfoxyfeeling 13,006
Stupid Love was such a disappointment, the aesthetic for the cover and music video doesn't match the song at all and should've been scrapped after it leaked. Alice would've been the perfect lead single to introduce us to the world of Chromatica. The music video could've been inspired by Alice in Wonderland, it had so much potential. Bling 31,331
Lead single: Free Woman (demo version) but polished a little more. The vibe was totally taken away by the studio version.(Music video with trans-women celebs and community) 2nd: ROM (MV we got is perfect) 3rd: 911 (nix the desert video and give us more planet Chromatica plz thku) 4th: Sour Candy (MV with BLACK PINK) 5th and Final: Babylon (Bowie version w funky guitars)(mv w famous drag queens and BIPOC vogue community)

LordByron28 1,059
Free Woman should’ve been lead. Replay was always the best option for the third single instead of 911. I respect her decision and it’s her art. The VMA performance and music video were great but Replay could’ve been big.
PopReaper 2,231
Disregarding the fact that I'm not sure if the song was fully finished back then, an early/mid-October 2019 release of Replay as the lead single would've been perfect tbh. Closer to the ASIB hype, the top of the Hot 100 was incredibly low in points back then, and the song is almost unanimously praised by fans and non-fans alike, so I think it would've had a better reception and therefore better longevity in streaming (and radio would be a toss up as usual, but if there was enough enthusiasm from the public I think they might've followed). Then she could've followed it with Alice as a promo single w/ a music video alongside the album announcement (while leaving the door open to send it to radio stations if it was well received), before dropping Rain on Me + the album in late February, narrowly missing the lockdown. Welp Fun Fact: The K in KPop stands for "Kate Bush"
SS77 2,000
Alice because since everyone is always mentioning chart performance. The GP (straights) love house music. Alice has a banger house pop production that is pleasing, and easily digestible to the casual listener. Quite the opposite to that of Stupid Love's. And on top of all that, the song is EPIC Also because Stupid Love doesn't match the sound of the rest of the album, I feel like it was an odd decision to introduce the era with an 80s synth song, while the majority of the album is 90s house. If it were up to me, the order of singles would've been: 1. Alice - I feel like it's important for a lead to be a strong, but chart friendly solo song. 2. Rain on Me - chart bump with another familiar American artist. 3. Replay - a less GP friendly (contrary to what many fan's insist). but still possibly chart friendly house song. This would be the album cycle's dedicated riskier (hit with the fans, unsure with the GP) single. Like Judas was for Born This Way. 4. Sour Candy - since album's latter singles tend to not chart as well, use the Blackpink stans' MASSIVE power to give the final single that major guaranteed push to end the era on a chart high note. Arcanum 5,155
I remember SL. sounded a lot like DWUW to me and left me an unfinished feeling. Alice on the other hand was an experience. Babylon as well I Wantth your Love...I Wantth your Love.
Edonis 28,950
Something bold and timeless that immediately catches the attention of fans and the public, like Babylon. Mae your Vogue comparisons all you want, but there's a reason that style of house music continues to come back time and time again. It's also a sound that a lot of people can get into, regardless of the demographic. Stupid Love was a bop, but does not stand out in her discography, especially when compared to her other leads. Alice is a good choice as well, but I'm still kind of in favor of Babylon. Free Woman could have been a single at some point, but not so much as a lead. Anderson123 38,188
Stupid Love was ok but Alice would've been a KILLER lead single. Such a shame they didn't change their minds after SL leaked a month early. Singles with music videos should've been: Alice, Rain On Me, 911, Sour Candy and Babylon. We could sit and talk about what could've been but at the end of the day the album came out at the wrong time when the pandemic was just getting started and then the riots, etc. the world was just a mess. Inactive 698
Am I the only one who doesn’t like Alice much compared the rest of the album? Alice was a nice intro track especially lyrically with the concept, but it felt a little basic and repetitive and I wasn’t a huge fan of the instrumental. Stupid Love was a much better choice imo. Replay, Rain on Me, Sour Candy and Babylon are the other strongest tracks in the album imo.
