Reimagine the ARTPOP album & era

Summoning all Little Managers!!

We know some of the original plans for ARTPOP so resume them or reimagine your own era! From the album cover, choice of singles, tracklist to gigs and performances... choose your level of detail.

I for one, would've liked the album cover to be either the announcement photo or the Applause single cover (with "ARTPOP" written in its same font and size). I just like the minimalist approach of the Inez & Vinoodh photoshoot.

fotonoticia_20130712185632_1200.jpg BQTnZo-CMAAEGvY?format=jpg&name=large

Another idea could be a recreation or reinterpretation of Koons' sculpture of Venus:

Venus_hires_bdHfpD4.original.jpg

Just like this, background and all, with the big brown wig and blue Koons ball.

Tracklist:

Spoiler

I'd replace Aura with the version that Gaga originally wanted- the demo, and Do What U Want with either X-tina or someone like The Weeknd that would sound slick with the instrumental.

Jewels & Drugs has to go, that's a no-brainer. For Fashion! I'd feature RuPaul. Donatella would be sickening if Donatella Versace herself says the bridge, redirected to herself:

Check me out, take it in
'Cause this bitch, she's so thin
I'm so rich and so blonde
I'm so fab, it's beyond

The app would function as promised. Releasing new songs every now and then throughout the era (Brooklyn Nights, Princess Die, TEA, Temple... all of those, the ACT II/experimental stuff) and a year after the release of the album she'd release these ACT II songs physically as a separate EP, and a re-release of ARTPOP + this EP, encompassing the entire ARTPOP project.

Singles:

Spoiler

1. Applause
2. Venus (a MV that ends the Paparazzi/Telephone storyline- she gets abducted and goes to space, period)
3. Do What U Want
4. Princess Die (or some other to promote the EP)

... and no "GagaInSpace2015" thankyew :hor:

Tbh if I could make any changes I would’ve just let Gaga live out the era the way she intended too. Artistic freedom once and for all. That’s what ARTPOP is all about

Railing

I'm not sure I would change anything too drastically about the album itself; I know she had a final set of 18 tracks (the remaining songs being Temple, Brooklyn Nights, Nothing On) and it would've been nice to have that full experience on the record, cuz it's already a long album anyway. DWUW should've stayed solo, obviously.

I have no problems with the artwork, because I don't think a minimalist alternative would fit the very maximalist album content & era. I would love if we got the music videos that Gaga had dreamt up for Venus, Aura, Sexxx Dreams and MANiCURE. And, of course, we needed ACT II.

First of all I'd change the music because it wasn't it :giggle:

Other than that there are just so many things that make no sense to me, like:

She had that great bubble dress and instead of using it in a music video or red carpet or live performance she walked in it 5mins in the street
She debuted Volantis with the NASA and it disappeared into oblivion
She debut the app and it disappeared into oblivion
She used the fiber optic wig for a performance where you could barely see that it lights up because the scene was super bright etc...

Like idk, if I had all these amazing projects I would not waste an opportunity to use them in a video or live performance...

I think I'm the only one who likes the album cover?!

I'd replace JND with Partynauseous , Donatella with Stache and Dope with Brooklyn Nights. DWUW feat. The Weeknd. A raw version of Sxxx Dreams like the iTunes festival tease video.

Singles: Applause, Venus, DWUW, Aura

The tour was great but I would have incorporated some elements from the iTunes festival like the ARTPOP and Swine performances. Make Aura the opener because I believe Aura deserved a more detailed performance.

No iTunes festival nor the Brooklyn show, no app, no Act II or additional songs hype.

Just an easy era for Gaga enjoying her rebellious EDM while incorporating a minimalist style (make that the concept of the album?)

I don't want to get that much into detail but Partynauseous instead of Jewels N' Drugs, Brooklyn Nights as bonus track or somewhere in there, Do What U Want is still the best song on the album, now I wish it'd have been solo just so she didn't have to remove it.

Singles: Aura, Applause, Do What U Want, GUY, ARTPOP.

I'd just make Venus the second single and let Do What U Want remain as a promo single (but solo). We could have had 3 videos/visuals for ARTPOP. I agree of having RuPaul as a feature for Fashion! it could have been so CAMP omg

I would have used the original announcement photo for the first album cover. Applause as lead single with same single cover and music video. For a change of pace, oddly enough I would have released Aura and Sexxx Dreams at the same time as 'promo' double singles. Build hype around the album and generate buzz about how different sounding they are than Applause and anything else she released thus far. I would still use the announcement photo (new album cover) as the cover for this 'EP' or double single release and release vinyl and CD's called 'The Applause' feating Applause, Aura, and Sexxx Dreams. If it were up to me, still have her feature on B*tch Don't Kill My Vibe on Kendrick's album. I've always been obsessed with her version.

Then DWUW feat. The Weeknd as second single with music video, HUGE smash. Release DWUW EP with OG version, Xtina version, and solo version. Then comes the album, with the announcement photo as the album cover and G.U.Y. release as 3rd single and music video with album release.

Tracklist:

Spoiler

1. Aura

2. TEA

3. G.U.Y.

4. Sexxx Dreams

5. Partynauseous

6. MANiCURE

7. Do What U Want (feat. The Weeknd)

7. ARTPOP

8. Swine

9. Nothing On (But The Radio)

10. Temple

11. Mary Jane Holland

12. I Wanna Be With U

13. Princess Die

14. Brooklyn Nights

15. Applause

In this perfect world, everything is a smash. Brooklyn Nights and I Wanna Be With U released as singles or promo singles. This whole time, Gaga has been building hype about the 'Act 2' EP release. Act 2 EP is later released along with ARTPOP re-release, just like TF/TFM.

Act 2 Tracklist:

Spoiler

1. Venus

2. Donatella

3. Fashion!

4. Hallelujah

5. Jewels 'N Drugs (feat. T.I., Too $hort, & Twista)

6. B*tch Don't Kill My Vibe (with Kendrick Lamar)

7. Onion Girl

8. Gypsy

9. Sexxx Dreams (with Rihanna)

Release Venus as promo single and music video along with Act 2 release. Act 2 is released in psychical formats as a standalone EP and with ARTPOP with 2 discs, just like TFM. This would lead to fans buying both versions and charting great. The Album cover for ACT 2 is the official album cover with the Koons statue. So we now have a yin/yang vibe with two covers, the more simple announcement cover and the colorful, chaotic cover. During the tour, release Sexxx Dreams (with Rihanna) as official single with music video, breaking the internet and hitting #1!

Summary of singles:

Spoiler

LEAD: Applause, with music video

Promo: Aura / Sexxx Dreams double release, 'The Applause' EP release with Applause, Aura, & Sexxx Dreams

2nd Single: Do What U Want (feat. The Weeknd), with music video, release Do What U Want EP featuring OG version, solo version, Xtina version, and DJWS Rick Ross remix, goes top #3 after AMA's performance

3rd Single & ARTPOP album release: G.U.Y. released at same time as ARTPOP album along with G.U.Y. An ARTPOP Film music video, replace Venus with Aura in music video

Promo Single: I Wanna Be With U, multiple performances with an official live version/performance video, goes #8 just like Dope

4th Single: Brooklyn Nights, goes #10 after live performance, release 'Brooklyn Nights' physical EP with Brooklyn Nights, I Wanna Be With U, Princess Die, and Dope (Dope only available on physical copies of EP, treat for fans)

ARTPOP ACT 2 EP release & ARTPOP re-release just like TFM

Promo Single: Venus released as promo single along with music video at same time as ACT 2 EP release

5th Single: Sexxx Dreams (with Rihanna) as last official single of the era along with an iconic music video, goes #1

ARTPOP: LIVE EP/album released after the Thanksgiving special, as a treat for fans and great way to showcase her vocals/live arrangements of ARTPOP songs, making the GP fall more in love. Even though she didn't perform all of these arrangements on the Thanksgiving special, who cares.

Tracklist:

Spoiler

ARTPOP: LIVE

1. Applause (Acoustic) [Acoustic piano version she performance on Japanese TV]

2. Do What U Want (Acoustic) [the heavenly version she performed]

3. ARTPOP (feat. Elton John)

4. Fashion! (feat. RuPaul)

5. I Wanna Be With U (Live)

6. Gypsy (Acoustic)

7. Brooklyn Nights (Live)

Ok, I know that was a lot. And no one will probably read all of this and I know it's not realistic at all, but its so fun to daydream about my favorite era :vegas:

I would’ve like a similar look to the album and aesthetic like the promo shoot by I&V. One of one things I’ve always admired about Gaga albums is that they have always had cohesion, strong opening and closing tracks with a good track listing. Aura is a strong opener but I just feel like Applause shouldn’t be the closing track.

Also DWUW shouldn’t have even happened with…..you know who. It would’ve been way better as a solo track and the meaning of the song would make more sense and as it would sound better coming from Gaga herself. The singles should’ve been Applause, Venus, DWUW (and an EP with the Xtina version) and Gypsy as the last single.

I think ARTPOP will be always one of the messiest roll outs in Gaga’s music career, it really is sad as the album has so much potential but as we know is wasn’t entirely her fault. TF, TFM, BTW (to an extent) C2C, Joanne and ASIB had great rollouts with good singles but AP and Chromatica will always be competing for which era was worst.

Replace DWUW with Heard It On The Radio, Dope for IWBWY and keep RuPaul on Fashion!! I would have release MANiCURE, Sexxx Dreams and Heard It On The Radio as singles, with videos and then closed the era with another Swinefest but with the whole album. To end the era, release a new video with Aura, Venus and Gypsy.

Maybe a couple of live performances with RuPaul too, would have been cute if she had been on that years series :) nice little promo for both!

Scare them first, so they can’t scare you...

I'll just repost what I put in a previous thread:

Pre-ARTPOP:

Zedd ft. Lady Gaga - Follow You Down (August/September 2012)

It's a safe single, but the May 2020 document leak revealed that she initially wanted this for ARTPOP. Doing this as a single on Zedd's album would be a way to reintroduce her musically to the public after the overexposure in 2011.

-

Born This Way Ball surgery (late 2012-early 2013)

Lady Gaga's management actually listens to her when she says that she's in pain, and during the break between the final two legs she undergoes a non-invasive surgery for her hip. Because the injury was less severe in 2012 she heals over the break and can finish the tour. However, the set list for the final leg is easier on her so she doesn't run the risk over hurting herself again. The tour ends on its planned date of March 20th, 2013. On the last date, the Aura laugh is played without context similar to what Ariana Grande did with Focus in 2015.

-

Kendrick Lamar ft. Lady Gaga - B!tch Don't Kill My Vibe (March 2013)

While PARTYNAUSEOUS (allegedly) got bogged down in issues over Lady Gaga being "too gay" for a rap audience, I still feel that the other collab should have gone through. It's still released in March just like Our Timeline (OTL) and is a nice way to keep Lady Gaga in the public eye with overexposing her just before the ARTPOP era.

ARTPOP:

Aura (May 2013) - Single and Album release announced one week in Advance

Aura is released the Friday before the 2013 BBMA's. The song gets a shocking (but very Lady Gaga) video co-directed by Jonas Akerlund and featuring a Beyonce cameo; yes, it is the Telephone continuation. The song also gets a shocking 2013 BBMA performance as well. This would also be hyped as her debut BBMA performance.

-

MANiCURE (July 2013)

MANiCURE is released one week before the album. The song is performed at the 2013 VMA's in a similar way to the iTunes festival, but with a bigger stage set. She also goes through with the original red carpet plan, and it isn't revealed who she is until the performance. I think her dancers or even drag queens dressing up as her could make this really cool, and a huge moment.

-

ARTPOP Release (July 2013)

The album is released this month, and (hopefully with her having a better image) does 300k - 400k in its first week. Songs like Venus would not be on the album because they would not have been recorded in time; Fashion! (maybe) has the same fate? PARTYNAUSEOUS could probably make it on the album, though possibly in the original version produced by Fernando Garibay. I Wanna Be With You is on the album as it would not have been changed to Dope in time.

Promo singles*: PARTYNAUSEOUS, I Wanna Be With You (or Fashion! if it can make it on the album in time)

-

ARTPOP App (July 2013)

The app is released this month to coincide with the album. It has all community features available, but the other features (like stems and videos) will be released in January 2014.

-

ARTPOP Promo Tour (July - September 2013)

A small tour (similar to the Hard Candy Promo Tour) that gives people a taste of the album live. The dates would, however, be more spaced out.

Dates:

July 19th, 2013 (Album Release Party)

July 26th, 2013 (GMA Summer Concert Series)

August 2nd - 4th, 2013 (Lollapalooza)

August 17th - 18th, 2013 (V Festival)

September 1st, 2013 (iTunes Festival)

-

Do What U Want (Solo) (October 2013, remix with The Weeknd in late November)

Do What U want is released in early October 2013. The song is a (partial) sleeper hit, and it is promoted primarily with the YMA's and the AMA's. A surprise remix with The Weeknd is released the Friday before the AMA's, and it pushes the song into being a major hit. I could also see a "remix EP" with Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears as well.

-

G.U.Y. (Or Gypsy if radio will play it) (January 2014)

G.U.Y. is released as the fourth single just before the Grammy's in 2014, and is primarily promoted there and at the Brit Awards. The song is intended as promo for the ARTPOP/Born This Way Ball documentary. Again, I would not be against Gypsy being a single. However, that is ONLY is radio would be willing to play it considering its title. We don't need another Judas situation.

-

ARTPOP/Born This Way Ball Documentary (January/February 2014)

The documentary is released at this point to help carry promo in early 2014. Trackstar and GagaTV are both released on the app to coincide with the documentary.

-

Roseland Ballroom Residency (March - April 2014)

Basically the same as OTL, though obviously with a slightly different set list based on different single success.

ARTPOP Act II:

Nothing On (But The Radio) (May 2014)

After a slightly long amount of time without a single release and people wondering where Lady Gaga will be next after Roseland, she surprise announces ARTPOP Act II. Nothing On is the lead single from the album, and it is performed live at the 2014 BBMA's. It has no other performances mainly due to tour rehearsals.

-

ARTPOP Act II (May 2014)

A week before the ArtRave starts, Act II is released. It mainly features songs that didn't make it on to ARTPOP. In addition to this, it also has so OTL ARTPOP songs that would have been recorded too late in this timeline (ITTL). A good example of this would be Venus. Also, ARTPOP Act II elements are added to the app on the day the album is released. Either the up-beat version of Princess Die or SiRE are released as promo singles.

-

ArtRave (June 2014 - April 2015)

The ArtRave was delayed one month to allow for ARTPOP Act II to be released prior to the tour. The tour is setup like Madonna's Drowned World Tour in that very little material prior to the albums being promoted is featured.

This is the map of the legs:

June - August 2014 (North American Leg)

September - November 2014 (European leg)

January - early February 2015 (Oceanian Leg)

March 2015 (Asian Leg)

April 2015 (South American Leg)

-

Temple (August 2014)

Temple is released as the second single in August 2014. The song is promoted at the VMA's. Due to the tour most of the singles from ARTPOP Act II are unable to receive major promotion through performances unlike those from Act I.

-

Brooklyn Nights (November 2014)

This is the final single from the album. The song has a (likely pre-recorded) performance for the AMA's. Maybe she could do one for the EMA's since the tour would be in Europe at this time? I expect the song to be a sleeper hit, and be similar to Taylor Swift's Delicate in that it's a top 20 hit that radio really loves.

-

Grammy's (February 2015)

A good send off for the era in it's later stages would be a song mash-up similar to what Dua Lipa did for Future Nostalgia. I think this would be a cool performance for her.

Post-ARTPOP:

The main difference post-ARTPOP would be Cheek to Cheek coming out in 2015 instead to accommodate the overall ARTPOP era being larger. The tour would also be later, and the logistics of balancing this between American Horror Story and taking a break for part of 2016 would honestly be a bit difficult.

----

*Ideally I'd only go with one promo single.

Obviously I haven't included other things like talent show performances, talk shows, more videos, magazine covers, etc. One major difference would be that all the promo is meant to be less intensive as to avoid the overexposure that happened during the Born This Way era.

I’m sure she changed the title when she was working with DJWS but still scrapped it. It was in all the leaked ARTPOP documents a couple of years ago.
