The Top 10 MOST Racist Countries!

This reminds me of the infamous post where Argentina was said to be a racist country solely because of the fact that there were no visible Afro-descendants in their national soccer team, versus the case of the French national team, where the presence of black players was interpreted as a gesture of "inclusion" by the French colonizing state hahaha. Sorry, but I'm laughing my ass off.

Argentina, like practically all nation states, has racism issues. But it is not a country where hate crimes are constantly committed against its racialized people, as it happens on a daily basis in other countries that are not even on the list (or are in a comfortable sixth place). There is a very complex problem of stupidity that leads the Yankees (or those who have their heads eaten by the empire) to construct a Hollywood argument that establishes a link between Argentina, Nazism and racism (?), when the main racist problem that exists in Argentina derives from complex socio-cultural dynamics that precede even the existence of Nazism as a political movement (and that have to do with the persecution of indigenous communities). Argentina, on the other hand, has one of the highest percentages of Jewish population in the world, and under no circumstances is it a marginalized or discriminated community. At the same time, the human rights policies that the country has pursued over the last twenty years have put it at the forefront of the struggle for equality and inclusion at all levels.

As I pointed out and you CHOSE (and still choose) to ignore or address, that comes from later immigration in the 20th century.

And are these the same immigrants that are the racist ones and look down upon people who have been living in that country long before anyone else?

No, they're the ones that mixed since that was socially accepted even in the 19th century (or earlier as records indicate, again afro first president).

I understand where you're coming from, but you can't generalize when talking about these topics. Latin america as much as everyone loves to think we're basically the same, is extremely different regarding each country's society and history, and that applies to the extremely complex racial dynamics within each country. And even within each country you can't generalize, since ethnic composition varies WILDLY, and therefore racial dynamics do too.

I think this youtuber is too generous with the US, had to be #1

I don't understand how they got to this conclusion depending on the sources, Switzerland #1 is a bit laughable, there is racism but not higher than US, Italy and France combined.

Racism is obviously going to be A little lower in countries where there is more diversity. The United States is way more diverse than Switzerland. The reason why some people think the USA should be number one is because A) the usa’s political issues are much more publicized than any country. B) this is a more liberal site with mostly gay American members who have had to face adversity, so you will hear them talk about it here.

the only one I’m surprised about is Brazil, as the Brazilian know have pride in their diverse friend groups. I do know Brazil has one of the worst class systems in the world, so maybe that plays a facto.

There’s absolutely no way France is #2 :lmao:

I will never forget that a French person once told me he didn't like Aya Nakamura "because she doesn't speak real French".

Why do you think she speaking French in the first place, mon cher?

I never even knew Switzerland had ANY racial issues quite honestly… 🤷🏾‍♂️

A lot of times that I crossed the border by bus, the customs stopped us and... very visibly only checked the papers and bags of black and arabic people. They're not even hiding it :toofunny: If the dog goes to check the bag of a white person, they pull him towards the bags of black/arabic people instead.

Oh, if the list focuses on black people, France being higher than the US makes even less sense. People's major issue here is with arabs.

I mean, there was the whole indigenous massacre that happened in the 1900s and even today the few indigenous people that remain have been speaking out about their treatment within their own country. Every colonized country in Latin America has grappled with unfair treatment of indigenous people. But have you ever wondered why they are much more invisible in Argentina than in countries like Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, or Peru? It’s because Argentina has been systematically driving them and their culture to extinction at a faster rate.

Sorry, missed your quote.

I never said we didn't have racism, I said that the problems we face are not comparable to other countries, where racially motivated hate crimes happen everyday, for example.

the massacre you refer to happened in the 1870s and mostly towards the south, but that's not the important issue. You may be interested in knowing that part of the people carrying said massacre were also other indigenous groups, because, as I said, conflicts tend to be extremely complicated. That doesn't excuse what happened though.

I would say populations have a voice, are able to stand up for their rights, and the media is not covering anything up and is actively criticizing any racist measures the governemnt could take (as it has recently with an issue regarding repression during a protest in Jujuy). Otherwise it would be swept under the rug like so many ongoin genocides that people seem to choose to ignore.

It's interesting that you mention Peru, when they have the same problems you point out in Argentina with their centralist view and perceived whiteness. Or Colombia where an internal armed conflict was in part racially motivated. Or Brazil, where natives lose their territories due to the deforestation of the Amazon... You see, it seems to me that you have a CLEAR bias.

India, Japan, china, Korea should be top 4

Aren’t these monoethnic countries though? Maybe they are colourist but can’t say racist when there are no other races to begin with.

Edit: in India’s case I can understand because of the north eastern region being ostracised by the mainland.

How did they know that? Wandering in the streets asking "are you racist"? :poot:

i believe the state funded napalpi massacre happened in 1924 and the seknam genocide, perpetrated by white men, took place from the late 19th up until the early 20th century. Much like Brazil, Argentina's racist and murderous policies against indigenous populations are very recent and still felt by its remaining descendants.

Saying things like "the problems we face are not comparable to other countries" is a bit disingenuous, especially when the attitude some Argentinians have towards paraguayans, bolivians and brazilians is not very friendly, to say the least. White argentinians dont face the problems because the perpetrators a lot of the times are white argentinians, even in other countries i.e just last month 3 argentinians were arrested in Brazil, for calling people monkeys.

I disagree with people saying that Argentina is solely white bc this discourse falls into the myth that Argentina is a racially homogeneous country, a post colonial myth filled with eugenics created to further silence and push away non-white populations (esp the native peoples).

But yeah LATAM is a very diverse and complex region with each country facing its own problems. Brazil, for example, despite having the largest black population outside of Africa is immensely racist and hostile towards black people

HiddenWeirdo

this is such a sensitive topic and many have no problem in ranking countries as racist based on their personal experiences or a youtubers' opinion.

what I meant was that racially motivated hate crimes within Argentina are relatively rare. Hate speech is unfotunately more common, and in some ways harder to erradicate, specially when political figures validate them. I'm sure you had the same problem with your former president.

You're right about the Napalpi massacre, recently the state was found guilty for crimes against humanity after a long trial and the Qom people were finally given justice. The same happened for one under Peron's government.

On the other point you brought up, about immigration, frequently interacting with immigrants in university and my work place, that experience has lessened for them and outside of the Metropolitan Buenos Aires Area it's less agressive. Big cities have that contradictory combination of extreme diversity coupled with extreme hate.

We fully agree here, our region is EXTREMELY complex when it comes to racism and the forms it takes.
