USSR imperialistic russification of Ukraine and Eastern Europe isn't any different than the imperialistic Arabization of Spain centuries ago. And yet we don't see Spain offering a curriculum in Arabic for their large Arabic minority. So obviously people who are outraged by Ukraine moving its education system away from Russian are hypocritical. Guess there are so many other instances in Europe, where larger minorities have to be taught in the State official language and there was no outrage. You know it too, so let's save us both time and move on.

Because obviously you're talking about this for political reasons, you're only interested in tarnishing the image of Ukraine. If you wanna force countries to create curriculum for all different ethnic minorities, do it equally or don't do it at all. Go have France and Germany do it. Go have Spain do it. You know the Arabs in Spain lived there for centuries. But that's not of interest to you. I would not be able to ''tarnish'' the image of Ukraine if these things would have have existed in reality in the first place - push for a change so sleezy pro-Putinists like me would not have anything to comment on instead of sweeping stuff you do not like under the rug. There are 300.000 Romanians in France. I know they will eventually start speaking French, because this is how things go, they willingly went there and will assimilate sooner or later. In the areas where a municipality is made up of 50% members of an ethnic community, that ethnic community deserves education in their own language. I don't have acces to media in Basque, Kurdish, Berber etc, I don't know what actions said communities want to be taken to have their languages preserved; once I do I will be the first one to post threads about it, and you will be my first tag. What I'm hearing is that Italy and Norway should be funding the protection/rejuvenation of the Anglo-Celtic languages they destroyed during the eras of Vikings and the Roman Empire. We could take this back all the way to Adam and Eve if we wanted to be pedantic about it but at some point we draw a line under history and accept natives as natives. It's not ideal but its the way of the world. I don't think anyone was scandalized about moving away from Russian (who are oppressors, anybody who disputes that is a fool), rather the wider impact it has. I'm sure everyone sympathizes with the Ukrainian intention (even if they disagree with it) but find issue with the way it's being put into action

Oh okay, so you don't care if the law is applied unequally and singles out one language (Russian) and not the others. Obviously Ukraine did this because of Russian influence. However, I won't support laws that I believe single out Russians. So if everybody has to be taught Ukrainian language, then let it be everybody. I don't want it to be only Russians. At least you could say the law was applied equally.

You dislike me so much that you would rather advocate for the status of Russian in Ukraine only so you can be a contrarian. I don't care about the status of Russian in Eastern Europe because it was imposed through imperialism and was used as a tool of ethnic assimilation; my sincerest regrets for being anti-Russian!! And the Kurds who fled to Europe did not face systematic suffering? Their descendants don't deserve the same rights because they came "from somewhere else". You're telling me Romanians (who have a whole state to themselves) are more endangered than say the Kurds who fled an oppressive regime in Turkey or Syria? Literally said none of this. I support the Kurds. I work with some Kurdish child refugees. Never denied the crimes inflicted upon the Kurds. I've never said their descendants don't deserve the same rights because they came from somewhere else. Hell until this post I've literally not commented on the Kurds. So god knows where you get off. I don't think anyone's suffering is more worthy of attention than others. But I don't expect a nation to pass a law to protect a minority of another nation that isn't present or at risk in it's own territory. I don't expect America to pass a law to protect Welsh identity in Michigan for example, I expect the UK & the devolved Welsh government to do that. I really wish you'd answer me on what historical knowledge you have of the European continent because you are making some interesting linguistic choices to in how you refer to people in varying European countries. For example, we aren't talking about migrant Romanians in Ukraine or migrant Russians. In the areas where there is a high minority of Romanian/Russian speakers, these people are primarily (although 2014 muddied the waters in Eastern Ukraine) Ukranian citizens by blood & birth. They just happen to have the primary language of the neighbouring nation because of the history of the regions. The gays know how to party

Or maybe just maybe I don't harbor hatred towards anybody? My issue is with Putin, not Russians. I never supported nor will I ever support laws that single out Russians. But it seems for you, your nationalism makes you believe that Romanians in other countries should be entitled to special treatment, but not others. When I say equality, I mean it, and that means Ukrainians, Romanians and Russians. I'd rather see Ukraine keep 2017 law that enforces equality on all 3, then change it in a way that creates explicit discrimination against Russians which actually helps Putin make his point. By this point I can say whatever and I know you will try to advocate for the opposite, this is not even Russia-Ukraine anymore, you just dislike me and want to counter any opinions I have even if they happen to be anti-Russia. I will exit myself from this thread saying ethnic assimilation of minorities was actually a good thing all along, I was just unable to see it. Wow somebody is surprised that because I'm pro-Ukraine doesn't mean I have to be a russophobe. Wow Breaking News!! How could it be that someone supports Ukraine's independence without advocating for discrimination against average Russians in Europe. Impossible right? Not like it'd be basic intellectual honesty and being consistent with one's values. I love how you flatter yourself too, thinking I'm being "contrarian" because of you. But if that's what gets you to move on, great! Please tell yourself that.

Really shows what values some people have. It's a museum, no? People don't put dinosaur bones in museums because they worship them. Museums contain history and lessons from the past, you learn from them. They're not places to venerate the individuals or ideas inside. Idk what the debate is about in general so I don't wanna involve myself really but this just seemed like a really weird take Whimsical bitch
