monketsharona 59,829
Honestly things should be put into situation. You only have her version. I'm managing a big AHS fan page online. And I can assure you they may be some reasons Ryan may have been totally pissed off by Angelica Ross' behavior over the last few years. The girl joined the cast of AHS for only a couple of years (Seasons 9 and 10). She regularly spoiled some details about her characters (especially from season 10) during live session on social medias while certainly not being allowed to (we know how much Ryan Murphy loves keeping his things secret until he shares himself details). She liked tweets about fans shading him about him not promoting his stuff and so on. She talked about backstage stuff on seasons she wasn't even involved in. She admitted asking him being promoted as exectutive producer and gave him creative ideas about cast and theme. This after only 2 years joining (consider the fact Sarah Paulson and Even Peters had producers credits only 10 years after joining). And you really question the fact he was not keen on answering her calls ? It is not related with her as a trans black woman. Like zero link. Just a personal stuff about someone who acted unprofessional many times before.

I think she just wants attention So cis white man does 1 thing right once, so any claims of discrimination are automatically false? Considering every other show he's produced has been mirred in controversy involving racism, sexism, on set bullying, profiteering from people's trauma & abuse etc? Bronco 7,255
I'd understand everyone trying to discredit the allegations of racism on the set if this was the first time racism on set had ever been suggested in relation to a Ryan Murphy production. But it's not. Glee is notorious for the backstage misbehaviour & blatant racial stereotyping and even racist scenes in the actual show's content. Scream Queen's very first episode was called out for using racist language. AHS has been criticised by poc for its depictions of certain characters in relation to racism. The New Normal has been criticised for its depictions of racist characters as funny nudge nudge wink wink figures. Lazy racial stereotypes and mishandling of race are a feature of almost every Ryan Murphy production. So like maybe Ross is only raising it now, potentially making a mountain of a mole hill to score points, she may even be lying. But why are we automatically assuming she is lying & trying to suggest Ryan Murphy is a flawless white saviour of black trans women?

(See the criticism he's recieved for racist stereotypes in Glee, racist behaviour on the Glee set, racist language in Scream Queens, a bizarre attempt to redeem Kathy Bates' AHS coven character who sadistically murdered and tortured slaves by making her severed head watch roots. ). A man who monetises people's trauma & tragedy for personal gain without ever consulting the victims he's making true crime **** out of. I dont think her character was meant to have a redeeming story. I think her character showed the complexity of people. When you think someone has changed their ways they will always show who they truly are. She never received a redemption. myluis617 5,366
I really like Ryans work and can see how he has changed the industry with his inclusivity. Its Disgusting seeing people label someone a racist when clearly they have shown the opposite. All im gonna say life is complex as hell. People have lives to live and just because Ryan didn’t have time to get back to Angelica about this project that gave her false hopes, it doesn’t mean he is a racist. It sucks when people have bad communication skills, i totally get the frustration. The labeling though is too much.
RahrahWitch 6,977
Ryan has a long history of abandoning projects so It's not really a surprise that he'd lead her on then ghost her. Not good but expected. I don't think he's a great person but I also don't think he's racist. I'm more concerned about the allegations of transphobia and racism on set, that's serious and she should call those people out by name especially if Ryan is one of them. Gurl, Glee was a long time ago (i never watched it cause it was cringe af) and SQ they were basically mean girls so... There are plenty of powerful black women in Ryan Murphy's universe. Look at Angela Basset. Also no one thinks Ryan is a saviour or anything but he's allowed to change his mind when it comes to a project. He only shared his idea with her and all of a sudden she straight up even asked him to be direct and stuff. That's not how it works. She's not an A lister, no one owes her anything

There are plenti of powerful black women in Ryan Murphy's universe. Look at Angela Basset Glee might have been a long time ago - it doesn't excuse the behaviour allowed on set by production. Especially when allegations on more recent sets suggest the exact same problems are occuring. Doing right by some people & not others when it comes to racism does not mean that the person's bad behaviour should be ignored. Bigotry is often shaped by power dynamics, people higher up the chain face less direct/overt racism because the perpetrators stand to lose more if successfully challenged. But also, you're pointing to one of the many allegations to discredit them all. Despite the fact that the evidence of Murphy's mishandling of sensitive topics like race/racism continues into current/recent productions - Hollywood was called out heavily for it's heavy handed attempts to rewrite history around the movie industry's attitudes to minorities during the golden era of stage & screen. Well i honestly don't trust her now that she's trying to cancel him after 2 years. And i really think for some people everything can be seen as racist or transphobic if you really want to see it that way. If Ryan was really that transphobic he probably wouldn't have made a show revolving around black trans women, don't you think?

Babe - the "for some people everything can be seen as racist or transphobic" is a far right dog whistle. As is the "why wait till now" criticism. She didn't "wait till now" she challenged it on set at the time, she's bringing it up in public now because the behaviour of hollywood's production class & higher is under intense scrutiny through the strikes so their is an audience to actually talk to. The allegation isn't that he was personally transphobic or racist - its that other actors/staff on the set of *his* show were and that they were actively allowed to be. Which is an accusation that has been levelled at Ryan Murphy productions previously by numerous people. Allowing any form of bigotry on your set is a bad thing to do and I'm surprised anyone on a Gaga fan site is trying to argue otherwise.

Roughhouse Dandy 9,185
Why is there a whole mob of people willing to fall on the knife making sure anyone claiming racism is immediately invalidated? It's like the palest one in the conversation gets a shield of invincibility to y'all. Actually insane behavior, but what's new around here? Nothing. This is my Hannah Montana™️ lipgloss.
