I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again , if Gaga ever does this I’ll cry. Her music is special not some commercial garbage like some other artists.

I'm a katycat and monster... and each artist has their prime and Gaga's and Katy's musical careers peaked many years ago. Younger people fancy younger artists now. Many years ago they and we were the young generation. It's always been like that. And that's ok. It doesn't mean they're not succesfull anymore - they start new projects and the real fans will always buy their newer music and go to their shows. They become older with their fans.

And as we can see both started new projects - founding companies, doing tv, acting etc. We have to accept that they also have other interests besides music

this is so confusing to me, like why? I'm sure she doesn't need the cash

Comparable but a little less. I think we forget that Gaga has had BIG singles but Katy has had a behemoth string of #1s in her time. Gaga’s commercial performance is a little scattered throughout the top 10-15 though when she hits she HITS. Katy has like, what, 9 #1s alone? Plus the overall commercial quality of her lesser big stuff makes them very valuable. Gaga’s stuff is iconic but also a little niche in usage. Just look at Roar vs Applause for reference.

That said, the legs of gaga’s career I think would let her sell them for more at another point down the line. Provided shallow isn’t her last crazy big hit (and I doubt it is), the length of cultural relevancy and dominance of the act plays a bit part in sellability.

I'd say TFM alone is 100M, BTW 60M, AP 20M, Joanne 10M, ASIB 50M, Chromatica 20M, (+orphan).

Total 260M+ which is royalties of only around 50 billion streams. :yennefer:

Honestly? Probably bc it’s very hard to get pop music of the last 2 decades that has a universality, popularity, AND relative wholesomeness that businesses can use. Her catalog of hits is stuff mom’s at the store won’t balk at meanwhile Gaga’s absolutely is :laughga: Gaga becoming big was down more to her edginess than it was pop qualities. Songs like paparazzi are good and eh eh but are they as universally known and beloved as California gurls or teenage dream? Which is more likely to play at a sports game? I think that’s the kind of ish they look at

Katy actually makes some crazy money. I was quite surprised at how much she's making with her residency, and then her Idol fee, and now this. For a musician who hasn't had a hit song for however many years she still holds a lot of power.

Yeah in the “x musician is a good businessperson” convo we really leave her out bc how do you not have a real hit in almost 10 years and still pull like this lowkey

It’s funny because liddos always say that Gaga is the one that’s over her music career, but ask the diehard Katy Kats the same question after this move and the response is much less mixed :laughga:

We monsters haven’t exactly been a bunch that can comprehend accurate forethought :derpga: Any venture aside from pop music is a major stress test.

But Gaga selling her music would be the apocalypse of GGD.

Katy has never seemed uncomfortable going where the money is (that’s not a bad thing at all). She has a family, and the ability to set your child up for life is probably more valuable to her.

Monsters hold Gaga to such ridiculous standards that integrity is seen as breached when she does anything seem as a money grab (Las Vegas, Haus Labs, Tudor, Dom Pérignon).

What about the big awards that her songs got like Grammy and Oscars for example, would that make her catalog more expensive or it doesn’t matter?
