Which gaga song were you surprised became a hit?

For me, definitely Bloody Mary. Always thought it was one of her more niche, genuinely bizarre/non-commerical songs that could never have mass appeal. Really was surprised at how many people fell in love with it (especially Gen Z TikTokers whose first intro to Gaga might've been that song). Of all her deep cuts, that was one I thought would stay a hidden gem forever.

Bad Romance.

Don't get me wrong, it's a masterpiece and definitely deserves the success it got. But at the time it was just so bizarre and extreme. There was nothing that sounded like it. The vocals, the synths, the lyrics. It was a huge risk.

Million Reasons- That song alone completely "rebranded" her, followed by Shallow. 

The Cure- it was a radio hit but gave me "Eh eh" vibes and thought it wouldnt be a hit but it was. 

Bloody Mary I kinda feel bad for because if it wasnt for that Wednesday thing I don’t think it would b a hit. Sad because the song is very cool and has great lyrics.

Every Gaga song that becomes a hit doesn’t surprise me because of its quality, but because of their longevity. 

Bloody Mary- This song has always been a fan favourite, but the quiet deep cut. Revisionism questions why it wasn’t a single during the album cycle, but there were always other songs in line to be singles. The power of a viral Tik Tok trend + Jenna Ortega and Wednesday skyrocketed it. In 2013, if you told me Bloody Mary would be a hit single, I would have really questioned just how so. 

Yoü and I- Being performed on many of The Monster Ball dates, the fourth single in a time of music where album cycles were becoming shorter & shorter, I was surprised Yoü and I 

Anything from A Star Is Born-Soundtrack singles in a live action film don’t usually smash, with the occasional exception. A Star Is Born was well into its theatrical release before the realization that there would not only be a number one single- one of Gagas top songs EVER, but two hefty hits afterwards.

Paparazzi. Back when we got The Fame I immediately expected Lovegame to be a single at some point and usually listened to Paparazzi but never imagined she'd make it a single and not just that but one of the fan favorites, known as one of her best moments (VMA performance), etc. She really pushed that HARD especially with Bad Romance around the corner.
