September 17:
Drew Barrymore isn’t bringing back her daytime talk show “The Drew Barrymore Show” until the strike ends, after all. The decision comes a week after the actor was criticized for saying “The Drew Barrymore Show” would premiere on Sept. 18 in compliance with WGA guidelines and without writers.

September 11:
Drew Barrymore is being criticized by fellow actors and writers on social media for her decision to bring back her eponymous daytime talk show amid the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. “The Drew Barrymore Show” is set to return Sept. 18.

While Barrymore is not violating SAG-AFTRA rules as the host of the show (guild contracts for talk shows, game shows, variety shows and soap operas was renewed and ratified in 2022), her show does employ WGA writers. This means new episodes of “The Drew Barrymore Show” will have to utilize either violating WGA members, non-WGA writers or no one.

Barrymore herself explained her decision to return in a Sept 10. social media post:

After Barrymore posted about the return of her talk show, the Writers Guild of America, East shared a statement that read: “The Drew Barrymore TV show is a WGA covered, struck show that is planning to return without its writers. The Guild has, and will continue to picket struck shows that are in production during the strike. Any writing on ‘The Drew Barrymore Show’ is a violation of WGA strike rules.”  source

people have the right to work if they decide so

I don’t think you aware of what’s going on and why the strike can’t be profitable for the writers and small actors if some of them works or maybe you don’t have any issues about watching movies and shows wrote by AI without any imagination but coming from someone who’s in the industry since she’s born is very disappointing.
Sh*t on your peers and they will never forget, sh*t on your corworkers and they gonna makes ur life a living hell, and personally I think it’s deserved.

I want to believe she’s doing this to protect the non unionized employees from being fired like the late show hosts did back in 2007

I don’t blame her, strikers don’t do themselves any favours. Complains about not receiving pay rises - goes on strikes and not get paid. Make it make sense.

That's literally how striking works :poot:

Biting the bullet now will hopefully improve working conditions and terms in the future. Not just for those striking, but also for the people who come after.

Anyone shamming her should have cancelled their tv cable and streaming subscriptions to support the strike

So if we’re in support of the strike shouldn’t we stop watching and streaming movies and tv ?

No, the unions have specifically said they do not want people to do that. If streamers and studio's viewership and incomes dropped they could argue they can't meet the union's demands financially, which nobody wants.

No, it’s because you keep watching movies and tv that there able to own royalties from their previous works and be able to pay their rent when doing the strike.

One of the stuff they ask originally is that writers can profit from royalties on streaming platforms because when the strikes happened in 2007, the law gaves them royalties on DVD, BlueRay and tv but streaming was not stipulate.

that's the exact point of a strike, to disrupt the flow and status quo as much as possible so those in power will feel compelled to change their unethical practices. blame the rich people & corporations who aren't budging, not the working people trying to make their lives better
