RAMROD 104,125
The 80th Venice Film Festival handed out its awards and Yorgos Lanthimos has clinched the top prize with his latest feature Poor Things, starring Emma Stone. The Greek filmmaker’s latest, which also stars Willem Dafoe and Mark Ruffalo, is based on Alasdair Gray’s 1992 novel of the same name and follows Stone as Bella Baxter, a creation of the brilliant and unorthodox scientist played by Dafoe in an echo of Mary Shelley’s classic horror novel Frankenstein. Ruffalo plays a slick and debauched lawyer. Dedicating the award to his lead actress, Lanthimos said Poor Things wouldn’t exist “without Emma Stone.” “This film is her in front and behind the camera,” he added. https://deadline.com/2023/09/venice-film-festival-2023-awards-winners-full-list-1235541624/amp/ Oscars contender now for sure! nkta 280
So looking forward to it! I loved their “Favorite” 5 years ago, it was my favorite film that year. This one will be huge Oscar contender (and I’m hoping it’ll win over Barbie and Oppenheimer). When is this out in the US?

nkta 280
Also, previous years show that Venice winners become huge contenders for Oscars: Joker, Roma, Shape of Water… All were big at Oscars, so I think it’s a lock for all big nominations now. Is Emma Stone winning Oscar in 2024 over Margot Robbie then?

hELXIG 41,585
God I already want to see this so bad! I hope it plays in theatres here. Surely! Emma Stone is actually so talented and diverse. More than just the goofy comedy girl some people still think of her as to this day. Have y'all seen her in Maniac on Netflix? Sooo good I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.
