Why is Taylor constantly sticking her nose into everything to "fix" or "revolutionise" it (according to her). Fair enough if she stays in her music lane but she is a guest in the movie industry. Remember how she tried to get All Too Well's 10 minute short film version into the best short film category at the Oscars? The academy put their foot down on that one. Perhaps this entitlement is what is stopping her many soundtrack songs from getting Oscar nominations? I'm still shocked that Carolina not only failed to get an Oscar nomination but barely won for best song at any other movie awards. That was a great, well-written, mature Oscar bait song and it got paid dust. Even though music is where she excels, the movie industry for some reason doesn't want to award it and maybe deals like this are what's part of it. When you're dabbling in other industries, you must play by their rules and not tread on any toes. The fact this was all dreamed up in secret and surprise announced when movie companies thought they knew what the schedule was and had all their hopes pinned on a movie going #1...that is not on. Taylor would be livid if she had her album release announced and all set up to go #1 and then Adele surprise dropped an album on the same week. Oh, but because it's not her industry and doesn't negatively affect her, it doesn't matter, right? She probably even picked the Friday 13th date because she was born on Friday 13th without thinking that would be the day that horror movies want to be released. Everything about this is a "me me me" move. I really don't see what there is to praise. It would be interesting to see if the reaction would be so positive if it were a male singer that was disliked here who did this.

Tbh she has every right to do a me me me move? And Adele could release the same week Taylor does and because she’s been me me me and said F the formula she would probably debut  with 1 million + and OUTSELL Adele.  just because she’s not following the formula doesn’t mean she should be condemned, she’s been winning because of it.

I guess these middle-men weren't that needed if they can get removed from the process like that...

Exactly, this gonna make more people think much better for their own best interest, now that this step is actually possible, especially since the suits at these movie studios been so greedy about everything. It's time for them to get some reality check.

HEARTSTOP

She pulls huge power moves to make sure she is the one in control of all the money-making related to her. It rarely affects any other person in the industry though. And I doubt she cares.

She just offered it up, it was the fans and the media who hyped it up.

obviously it’s “me me me”, same as the chromatica ball. It’s all bout Gaga, this will be all bout Taylor. Wtf you expect lmao

I'm sorry, but no. Right now, if anything, everyone should be trying to play as much against the rules of the film industry as possible and I say this as someone who has studied the film industry and is working to be a part of it.

No respect should be paid to the studios and the rules they've laid out at this moment. The rules they've laid our were laid out for no other purpose than to benefit them and prey upon everyone else. Their rules are outdated and predatory and everyone should be working as hard as humanly possible to break those rules.

That is one of the major points of the strike.

Are you really wanting to defend the studios and their archiac systems and processes at a time like this? Are you really wanting her to step on the toes of strikers and theaters just to dance to the tune that the entities everyone is trying to win a war against plays?

But is it moral to pull a "me me me" move? Surprising film companies with this surprise release means they have to push their films forward knowing they won't stand a chance at #1 and will be completely overshadowed otherwise. It's not always a positive thing to say f the formula. The formula exists for a reason and to allow for fair play.

But she shouldn't have offered it up in the first place. Music videos are just that - music videos, not films. No other singer has offered up their heavily acted music video to the Oscars before. The way she thought she was entitled to do that speaks volumes about her ego. If she's all about supporting the little guy like her fans claim, she wouldn't have even thought to enter her music video in a short film category, thus potentially taking away a nomination or win opportunity from an actual unknown short film creator who could have their big break. And I don't have an issue with her releasing a concert film, just like I don't have an issue with Gaga doing the same thing. The 'me me me' move I'm referring to is bypassing distributors by thinking she knows best and surprise announcing this, throwing plans for movies released on the same date into a tailspin and now have to be rescheduled. She potentially doing this films out of millions of dollars. How anyone can't see the problematic nature of this is beyond me.

This has nothing to do with the strike, so there's no need to bring it up. That's a very far reach. If anything, the best way to support actors right now is to let them release the movies they're starring in on schedule and don't step on any toes by surprise announcing yours in their planned release week. Giving other studios a heads-up of the movie you're releasing and planning to release is, as Wikipedia put it "a gesture of good faith." This exists in all industries and all walks of life, not just movies. I don't see what's so outdated and archaic about that. This film won't help the strikers as they won't be benefitting from it. And as it'll only be showing in AMC Theatres, it won't benefit theatres in general.

The overriding message is this: not everything Taylor does is amazing or for a greater noble purpose. She just wants to make money. Nothing wrong with that, but stop pretending like she's doing this as some sort of supportive move to theatres. She'll simply make more money by bypassing the distributors. It's really not that charitable or deep.

It has everything to do with the strike.

That’s what she sought SAG-AFTRA approval to release it even though it doesn’t fall under the strike rules to begin with. It’s why she hasn’t made a deal with a streamer. It’s why she hasn’t communicated with the studios once she left the tables with them.

You saying it “has nothing to do with the strike” just tells me how little you really have looked into why this is all happening the way that it is.

Once again: she owes Hollywood studios no grace or good faith. She doesn’t owe them anything. They have made their bed and refuse to come to the table to fairly pay their writers and actors, it isn’f her fault that studios now can’t promote their struggling films.

SAG-AFTRA told her to do this. I think they know a little more about what’s helpful to them than GGD user Strawberry Blond.

I meant her reasoning wasn't deep. And you can be invested in stuff that's not deep. My fascination is in why the overwhelming response to this is that it's some sort of boss babe move. And there's no need to be rude.

Well, there's a reason why her soundtrack music doesn't get nominated for/win major movie awards and she never gets plum acting roles. Because she's not done anything to win the movie industry's respect. I really thought Taylor would be the type that would love an Oscar and if she wants one, she's going about it all the wrong way. This could result in her burning bridges with the industry and you don't want that. And you can support the strikers all you want but at the end of the day, everyone wants movies to be made and you can't do that without the studios. Not saying they can't be unreasonable but they're the catalyst for movies existing, obviously. It was given permission from SAG AFTRA because it's a non-AMPTP production, basically, that it's nothing to do with fictional movies or acting, it's just a recording of a live performance, so is considered something totally different. I don't think it's necessarily that it helps the strikers but it just has nothing to do with them. The name Taylor Swift holds weight in the music industry, not the movie industry. That line in Anti Hero about altruism kinda sums up this situation. When she's admitted it in her own song, it's hard not to view this as a money-making move.
