“I was very surprised when people thought that.”

Doesn’t this kind of confirm that it isn’t about TS?

maybe but it could also mean "I was very surprised when people caught that loool I thought they'd never do"

Classy answer tbh.  I imagine that the pressure must be heavy, dealing with a manufactured "feud" vs The Industry ™

Where was Olivia's publicist to block that question! I found it to be a little far to ask that.

Didn’t she literally upload a sped up version that was 13 seconds long on YouTube?? Like, the proof is obvious

Religion is a product to sell.

I’m seeing a bunch of fully grown swifties being nasty to her on Twitter, so let me go stream Olivia’s new music lol.

It’s one thing to blatantly rip music, it’s another thing to be inspired by your idol. Imagine suing a fan because they said they were inspired by your music. Sad!

I still don’t think Deja Vu sounds like Cruel Summer nearly enough for Taylor to have writing credits.

I think it’s understandable to think these lyrics might apply to that bc I’d be upset too, but this song is most likely ab her ex.

Olivia shot herself in the foot when she said Deja Vu took some inspiration from Cruel Summer. I feel like she thought she was giving Taylor some props but Taylor went ahead and asked for some writing credits instead. Part of the bridge of both songs are indeed similar. The lyrics 'I scream for whatever it's worth I love you ain't that the worst you've ever heard? and 'you're trading jackets like we used to do yea everything is so reused' have the same melody and deliverence. I think Taylor really wanted Cruel Summer to have it's moment in 2020 before covid happened and when Deja Vu smashed a year later she felt a certain way about it. I'm sure Olivia was shocked because she already used an interpolation of one of Swift's songs on Sour and gave her writing credits. Taylor wasn't gonna let Cruel Summer's iconic bridge be ripped off before it had a chance to become a single. So Taylor took 50% royalties. Gotta love TayTay:ladyhaha:

honestly good point lol maybe Taylor was specifically upset about that song because it was going to be a single

If Taylor wanted credit/Olivia wanted to give her credit, sure. But 50% is insane. Maybe take the zero off and it’d make sense for the melody of one line of the song

She gave 50% to Taylor????  Literally the only thing that was supposedly similar in Deja Vu  was the spoken vibe of the bridge. That absolutely does not qualify for HALf of the credit and royalties. Ugh.

music rights are music rights. We live in  a society. Otherwise Paramore wouldn't do that too to her.

Ed Sheeran blatantly ripped off an entire instrumental, yet he was defended. In Olivia's case, it wasn't a rip off like that nor was it something Taylor should take 50% from when it's merely like 5% of the song. This just shows how gross and utterly vile she is.

You want to defend THAT?

I still don't get the admiration for Taylor when she's shown indirectly again and again how much of a stuck up and pathetic person she is. Taking 50% from a brand new artist that's your fan when it's a little part in the bridge is just gross and turns me completely off on her personality.

Why are some of you so okay with supporting a woman who supposedly WALKED AWAY from buying her masters until someone bought them to play the victim and claim it's because of anything BUT money and charts. How about we go back to her having the audacity to mock Joe Jonas for breaking up with her in five seconds over the phone when it's been confirmed the only reason it was five seconds was because SHE hung up on him. That small detail showed how utterly manipulative that woman is. She had no problem with a derogatory term when Kanye called her ("I feel like Taylor OWES me sex") yet had a problem with him saying "I made that bitch famous" when it's the same fvcking thing. Then the Katy Perry thing and her recent relationship. She's giving me such bad vibes. It's like she manipulates others just so she can play the victim and create a premise for a new era and album.

I'd have more sympathy for Taylor in this situation if she Wildest Dream didn't sound nearly identical to Lana's Without You. There are other examples, too. And Lana has no issues with Taylor....

I don't think they are actively feuding and Vampire is clearly about a man, but I can understand why Olivia might be annoyed. Firstly, because Deja Vu/Cruel Summer have no real similarity. Olivia said it was an inspiration, and Swift's team ran with it because in this day and age you can sue over anything for credits (which leads to a lot of bogus lawsuits). I can see when faced with the possibility of having to face her legal team, Rodrigo's team quickly gave in and gave Swift credit. Secondly, because Taylor is guilty of the very thing her team went after Olivia for and because Elvis Costello (who had a far more legitimate gripe than Taylor) treated Olivia with grace.

Edit: I'd also add that Olivia's producer heavily implied (and yes, people make reaches, but this wasn't one) that no one had an issue until the song was a hit. The implication being that Taylor heard the album before it was released (which makes sense as Driver's License was out long before the album dropped, and Olivia was praising Taylor non stop) and didn't have any problems until a) it smashed and b) the press started referring to Olivia as Taylor's heir, etc.
