You do you boo :)

honestly, I truly feel sorry for you not being able to see the brighter side of things, but turning it so intensely negative, using all these big words and „nasty“ interpretations. I hope you’ll find  the time and support you need to view other opinions from more than your side, i think it’ll be a wonderful day. xx

Nothing in that statement from her is an apology for her transphobia. How is anyone supposed to see the brighter side of transphobia?

edit: you know what? I’ve changed my mind and I’m not really interested in commenting on something so complex and sensitive.

I’m just going to say that a majority as big as binary society will always lean towards being oppressive and aiming your discourse towards protecting kids and teens (aka regular human beings, only younger) is an excuse to oppress and erase minorities.

each person is its own world and history. that’s why generalizing something of this nature is a tragedy and downright being ignorant.

Does anyone at least use Google Scholar or cite their sources? I legit just did a 20pg annotated bib on this for a grad course and all signs and research point to affirming care. When people say “wait it out” or “wait until they’re 18” I respond with, “If they make it to 18.” SI/SH and attempts are high within this population.

It’s so insane that gender as a social construct is so hard for people to grasp. As well as race, in many senses. (Jane Elliot, anyone?)

also, while I’m not knowledgeable of this person at hand, let’s all move toward consequence culture rather than cancel culture (if the person is truly apologetic or learning and growing). ****, I would’ve been cancelled 10 years ago. Thank you to sociology and college and multicultural humility helping me see the light.

I didn’t say anyone should see the „brighter side“ to transphobia. This is again people, in this case you, reading in to statements what you want to read.

The brighter side I was referring to is that she realized that she’s not informed enough to speak on a topic publicly and that she communicated that in adult way. You can’t expect people to do their entire learning process in a week.

Imagine what a world we would live in if everybody would apply distancing and educating themself before continuing a discussion. That’s the brighter side.

I mean that's a very forgiving and optimistic view of someone who's statement refuses to apologise for her transphobia and explicitly states her views are fixed.

It's disappointing to see people immediately bully someone for their views on one small fragment of a larger discussion.

Guess what? People all around will have opposing opinions on various topics. You have to live with the differences.

Do people not realize that the mentality of canceling someone you don't agree with is EXACTLY the same behavior as a far-right extremist? It's insane how we got here, to be quite frank.

It’s not overly forgiving, given that she explicitly said that she was not informed enough on this issue in the statement.

What’s there to update? People got offended, she wrote an “explanation” and that’s it. Another day, another drama.

well I was referring to her perhaps saying something, which I see now she has.

i wouldn't brush this aside as simply as you seem to be, it's extremely disappointing that her apology is so empty. she said so much without saying anything at all. it really sucks.

Transphobia or any form of hate is not an opinion, it's not something we should tolerate or even care if the person is oh so offended.

Her opinion on the issue of puberty blockers on young children is exactly that: an opinion. That opinion and comment alone doesn't make her transphobic. It's fine if you disagree with me, I'm not here to change minds or to get people to agree with me. I'm simply shocked that there is no middle ground anymore and instead there is a big divide with only two sides. There's so much nuance to all of this.

of course this is a big issue and there's a big divide with the ''two sides''  bc we're talking about LIVES here. Cis people love to share their opinion about our trans lives and how we choose to survive. For trans people this isn't a topic to talk about, this is our life.

trans teenagers(not kids) are just trying to survive, some parents don't even have a choice, its either they give their teenagers puberty blockers or they will k*ll themselves. I know a lot of trans families in person, they're not giving blockers to their sons and daughters like candies, they're really scared but they don't want to lose their trans teenagers.

these teenagers will have a long and healthy life if they get the care they need, this is why every trans person says that their transition saved their life.
