Why is ARTPOP always singled out?

I know, i know, another ARTPOP related thread really? Yep! we're approaching 10 years since the album and with "Applause" turning Dieci this month nows the perfect time to discuss and reflect... again. :enigma:

The one narrative surrounding this album which I will not tolerate (be kind) any longer is the one about how many say "edm was dead" when the hypersonic, colourful ARTPOP record dropped.

That's a straight up lie. EDM (lot of different electronic variations were having big success in 2013 and the following year after and even after that - Calvin Harris, Avicii, Flume, Alesso,  Martin Garrix, Zedd, Chainsmokers (#SELFIE), Galantis, PNAU like the list goes on. :iamfair:

Ok you guys speak now.

See you in November for ACT II EP (ft. Bad Bunny and Not Alice)

:vegas:

I love ARTPOP!! It is her album I listen the most, in the summer period especially. I always add Replay from Chromatica to it.

No one says EDM was dead, usually it's just that some of the songs on ARTPOP sounded like edm from 3 years before (which some of it was, just old instrumentals that she got given by producers that had them lying around) if I'm not mistaken

ARTPOP was the the closing part of the "the fall of a superstar" trilogy that she had been doing, sans BTW alboom which was an ode.

TF (the rise) - TFM (the peak)  - ARTPOP (the fall)

I love portions of ARTPOP and I think it could have been an amazing album and era given some things were changed. Honestly people wayyyy overreacted to SwineFest and clearly missed the entire point of her vomit piece. Demi’s dumbass talking about glorifying bulimia is a great example. I love the album with the exception of Jewels N Drugs which honestly should have never made it to the album.

because it's the only album that underperformed and fans are trying to make it into something it wasn't.

I love EDM music but EDM has different variations. it's more about the style of ARTPOP that I just didn't like personally. If you heard ARTPOP for the first time, you may be able to tell it was released around 10 years ago, back when Martin Garrix, released Animals, its got those build ups and drops, those certain synth sounds. Zedd had those buzzy bass sounds, Avicci, The Summertime Sadness remix etc.. If I hear that style from 2013 playing I usually hear people say, 'why is this song playing it's so bad'.. So in my opinion, that style from that era has lost popularity quite rapidly. I hate to use the words 'dated' but I think people don't enjoy it anymore as much

If we take Chromatica for example, it was safer and more current but that's because that kind of EDM influences have been heard from the 90's (90's House, D&B, Electronic, Techno) and it's made a full comeback. I'm not sure if that new EDM style from 2010 will make a comeback but it's possible. Let's see how people feel about it in 10 years from now :artdoll2:

I feel like "dated" has lost all meaning since we have e sounds from 50 years ago smashing in the current music scene lol

But those instrumentals sounded fab (still do) and had so much detail going on even if they were "borrowed".

Yeah this is the thing, music from 50 years ago has made a full turn, Gaga may have been right by saying it was ahead of it's time. But we have yet to see how we feel about ARTPOP in 50 years :ladyhaha:

The problem with ARTPOP is not the album, it's the era.

If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.

Yikes.

Europe and Australia still go nuts for that style of music. Any variation of electronic/house is worshipped here lol.
