@Natalia Kills, I want to start off by saying I really appreciate your respectful and rational discourse on this. In response:

While I understand why they seek higher pay, striking in this current economic climate risks indirectly inflating costs for consumers and causing more action. This could adversely affect streaming platforms, possibly reducing exposure for new talent if consumers pull back due to increased costs. And usually the creative industry is the hardest hit when people's bank accounts run dry. It's risky.

That's correct. the intention of the strike is to adversely affect streaming platforms. But quite frankly, no actor is getting less exposure due to the strike. I think the biggest misconception about the entertainment industry is that somehow it functions like a regular industry, with standard growth and raises for a job well done. Actors' employment prospects are subject to taste and other's opinions. You could be Tom Hanks and audition for something and not get it (which I'm SURE has happened to Mr. Hanks before). Exposure for new talent is a like playing a roulette wheel regardless of if there is a strike or not. So therefore, the actors and writers are standing in solidarity to ensure that when the roulette wheel lands on them, they are given a fair deal.

On the topic of AI, its use, especially in replicating actors' likenesses, should be regulated primarily by governments and international bodies, not individual corporations. It isn't feasible for companies or studios to carry that regulation because it would simply lend an advantage to other studios (particularly multinational) that don't conform with it.

i agree. Please talk to the AMPTP about that. Because that's what they have proposed to SAG-AFTRA. Being able to capture a background actor's (extra's) likeness and replicate it in perpetuity, across the universe, forever, for less than $200. A background actor makes less than $200 a day for up to 8 hours of work on a film or television series  as is (commercial actors make slightly more). This notion of using AI to replicate extras is absolutely insane, and how much money does it even save? And where is the money saved even going? Who gets to govern their image rights? The union would like to know, and the AMPTP will not even *engage* in further discussion on the matter.

It's really a undecided discussion in itself that goes far beyond just the relationship between studios, actors and writers.

Again, I agree. But it needs to happen NOW, when the collective bargaining agreement is being restructured. SAG-AFTRA already botched the negotiations surrounding the internet and social media for its members (especially on the commercials contract) and they will NOT make the same mistake again. This is a watershed moment. The last time the union struck, residuals were created for network and cable television; payment for the reuse of actors' & writers' content and image. Those don't exist in the streaming age. Things MUST change.

To every member of this board and the GGD community...as you can tell this issue is extremely important to me and is literally life or death for hundreds of thousands of other artists. Please stand with SAG-AFTRA and the WGA. Please read up on what is going on and spread the world - educate the public. Artists create work for the public and they need the public's back right now.

My god this whole thing had me come across this article on how little the actors who were on Orange Is The New Black were paid:

https://www.newyorker.com/culture/notes-on-hollywood/orange-is-the-new-black-signalled-the-rot-inside-the-streaming-economy

Beth Dover, who played a manager at the company taking over the prison: “It actually COST me money to be in season 3 and 4 since I was cast local hire and had to fly myself out, etc. But I was so excited for the opportunity to be on a show I loved so I took the hit. Its maddening.”

Myles still gets around six hundred dollars a year for a handful of guest spots on “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” stretching back to 2004, but her residuals this year for “Orange” have come to around twenty bucks.
