Brazilwood 4,205
Guys, read carefully the quotes, it's about her relationship with the LGBT community, leading for change, giving hope, she fell into the position of what the author says is the "Captive Maternal", it's a direct message to the people who were asking for a pride post. Y'all think she is ignoring us, and instead she is reading about her relationship with activism, community needing her, acting as a "mother". It's about when she doesn't "hug" us we act like babies like we did last week. She's so intelligent and unpredictable. The part of the book about "disciplining hope" basically talks about how some people only feel hope when "mother" posts about pride, when she doesn't post people react as if they don't have any hope. Some people need her to create hope for them. "That as we deepen our relationship with community, we must also begin to welcome the contradictions of our words and our thoughts". Basically y'all questioning her relationship with the community because of the absence of a post, calling her contradictory because of it. A slap on y'all's face, but I guess the ones who were complaining won't understand a single sentence. Edit: forget everything above and pretend you didn't read it, I didn't realize the quotes are about Juneteenth and I made it about her. Moving on. The role of the Captive Maternal, as characterized by James, explicitly refers to the role of indigenous or marginalized caretakers in a colonized society. The Captive Maternal is an (often female) caretaker that stands as a barrier between their community + families and the imposition of colonial violence. Her posting this is absolutely in reference to Juneteenth and the abolition of slavery. We have forgotten our public MANNERS

But let's leave the concrete. She fell into that position of a mother shielding the LGBT community from abuse. Just change the characters and you can read the elements of the book to analyse her situation. Paubrasilia echinata

I read the quotes metaphorically and applied to her situation. Scrape what I said (or no, I think we can read her situation with the lens of the author).
