Teletubby 151,340
Bjork called on tech billionaires to come up with greener solutions for touring musicians such as environmentally friendly cruise ships to host roving festivals The Icelandic singer-songwriter has been on the frontlines of green activism in recent days, joining a protest against whaling in her country. She has been looking for ways to cut the carbon footprint of her tours, and featured a message from Greta Thunberg during her shows. “I was hoping Elon Musk and his tech friends would make electric tour buses or solar- and wind-powered cruise ships… could you pass that message to him please?” the Icelandic artist told AFP. “(Maybe there) could be a Coachella-like festival boat that travels the oceans with no flying included,” she added. source "You b*tch!" ~ Rat Boy

UM. Love that idea. The only problem is it would never be big enough.. big venues can hold 20,000 people and even sell out that many seats multiple nights. But that would be so cool! Imagine the show boat docking at the local port and walking onto it for your show Actually now that I think about it it scares me the opportunity for sabotage, accidents, mass drownings... Also one more sidenote.. Paramore did a cruise where they did multiple cruises on a boat full of fans and performed each night. Looked like sooo much fun Spoiler Someone's description from reddit: The main attractions are the concert sets by the band. The parahoy concerts are probably the best I’ve ever seen for a couple reasons. First, you’re on a boat, so there’s only so many people who can fit. The pool deck and surrounding balconies actually make for a very intimate setting. Even the very back and top level viewing areas are a great vantage point to watch the concert. There are some bar chairs but most of the venue is standing room only so it really is more like a little music festival. Secondly, the band isn’t there to tour a specific album or reuse a particular set list. They know that most of the people on the cruise are huge Paramore fans so it really opens up what songs they can play and how they interact with the crowd. There’s no hand holding in these concerts, they play the hits and the deep cuts. The time outside of Paramore’s sets can be whatever you want it to be. There’s a 24 hour buffet of decent food and drink. There are bars and lounges spread out throughout the ship. There are other bands performing and group activities constantly happening simultaneously around the boat. You can find a spot of the ship to spend some time alone or you can mingle with tons of friendly Paramore fans from all over the world. Like any other large gathering, there are some people who won’t really vibe with you, but also plenty of strangers who are very interesting and fun to hang out with. Last time the number of international guests outnumbered the Americans. You really do get a variety of culture and faces on Parahoy. Most of the guests in the past have been young adults, from 18-28 I’d guess. Although, there are plenty of older adults and even some teenagers. The cruise is expensive. I think I’ve spent around $3000 each time, including travel to the port city. I know it can be done for a bit cheaper, but to really be settled and comfortable you might need to spend some money. I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

Yeah but honestly we can’t be thinking about how to create a 1:1 replacement bc these events are just bad for the environment. I think the point is how can we get out of the paradigm we’re currently in that just isn’t sustainable like I think we just have to be able to give up some stuff if we’re gonna have a better world to live in, ya know? Nemo 4,318
Electric buses exist. They aren't made by Tesla (although they make electric semi trucks). Turning them into tour buses is probably the work of customizers. But I dunno how suitable they are for long-range travel, yet; they're more aimed at replacing city and school buses. There are solar-powered ships, as well. I think these are at a relatively early stage of development, but very promising. Anyway I hope someone will clue Bjork in that Elon is kind of a scumbag. Yeah I understand that... but the major sacrifice would be less people being able to go to the tour. Unless the artists plays 4 times as many shows (smaller shows) on their tour, which is totally unreasonable. I just see fans missing out on tickets and tours and seeing their favs, only the rich being able to afford to go anymore, etc I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin. But that’s why I think it’s good we throw ideas out there that go beyond the current modes. Clearly the current way of thinking isn’t working since fans still can’t afford stuff AND it’s a blight so yay for bjork raising the convo even if the specific idea isn’t the one. Someone’s gotta start the brainstorming
