It is clear that they refer to solo albums. Gaga herself referred to Chromatica as "LG6" too so if ASIB counts to you then you're in for a surprise Maxime: LG7 is already out.

the point of the thread is measuring how long we wait to get a collection / full body of new work, so there’s really no need to “look past” ASIB like a lot people are doing simply because Bradley’s on it. :max: Like I said it’s still a whole body of work with more original solo songs than TFM, so what’s the purpose of diminishing its value to make the wait between Joanne and Chromatica seem longer.

It’s crazy that Gaga could’ve released the 8 solo songs with Shallow (so 9 total), threw in a couple of music videos (even from the movie) and people would view it differently. Literally cutting it down to make it bigger lol.

I can see people not counting it because none of it is written by Gaga as Gaga. It’s written by Gaga as Ally

that literally makes no sense to me, whose name is on the record?, definitely not ally, case closed.

It means that none of Gaga's albums are written by Gaga as Gaga. They're written by Stefani as Gaga. So no album counts.

it really bugs me when ppl refuse to include it as a "real" body of work cus they're desperate to drag her and invalidate her success

it's not an LG(x) project but she wrote, recorded and performed those songs from start to finish

the only way a solid argument could be made against that is if the entire soundtrack was just covers

mother, what must i do?

Exactly.... also, what about artists that don't even write their record themselves altogether? can we say that said albums don't belong to them either. The whole theory is flawed.

This is such a stupid debate

ASIB's soundtrack is a body of work that Gaga created, there's no negating it. But it is not a Lady Gaga album in terms of her "main" discography. It's not part of her "music career", it's part of her "acting career". It's a chronological film soundtrack with songs by her character, songs by another character/vocalist, duets and film audio interludes. It doesn't go in the same box as a proper album and era like Born This Way or Joanne :rip:

But why is this distinction important?

At the end of the day, it is part of her main discography according to every public record, when gaga makes a greatest hit album guess what? ASIB songs will not be left out, no one in the music world cares about this pointless distinction because it has no implication in the grand scheme of things.

Gaga has said that she envisions looks and performances as she’s writing her music. So let me ask, is she not always writing music from *that* perspective, where she’s focused on writing a soundtrack for another character? Is each album not just an outlet for Gaga to tell a story of a different character? The only debate here is that Ally is not ENTIRELY her creation. But when are her characters ever? She’s always collaborating with musicians, directors, and other creative minds. Chromatica for example was extremely influenced by BloodPop, who created the interlude concepts (and if I’m not mistaken, even the whole other world concept).

I just think it’s wild that some people discard ASIB as a whole body of work by Gaga. Yes, it’s not technically LG6. It’s not a solo Gaga album. But it is a full body of work that features her lyrics, her production, and her voice. There’s more solo songs on that album than TFM, so track list length isn’t a debate here. People shouldn’t use its attachment to a major movie (or Bradley Cooper) as a way to dismiss it’s importance in her discography, especially if it’s to say “omg gaga took 4 years to release music between Joanne and Chromatica”

Girl, no one is discrediting ASIB. We all know that Gaga worked hard on that album and that she created/sang those songs with just as much love and passion as she did her own solo albums. People are just saying that it doesn’t fall under her own solo albums, which you just admitted yourself in this comment. ASIB IS an important part of her discography, arguably one of her most important tbh, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a solo album. If it was, we’d be calling “LG7” LG8, but we’re not.

The difference between Ally and all of Gaga’s other creations is that Ally was a character specifically created for a movie. Gaga has had different alter egos and stuff, but those were clearly creations of hers for her albums. Yes, she collaborated with others to create her work, but that’s the inherent process of making an album. She’s not gonna 100% record, produce, write, and come up with melodies herself.

Let’s also not forget that even though Ally was a character specifically created for the movie, the movie itself is a remake. So it’s not like everything there is 100% original. Like, are you going to argue that Harley Quinn is going to be a “Gaga creation” too? Or that the Joker soundtrack is going to be a Gaga album?

No one is taking away from it's importance :laughga:

But even Gaga doesn't consider it in her little lineup. LG1 (The Fame), LG2 (The Fame Monster), LG3 (Born This Way), LG4 (ARTPOP), LG5 (Joanne), LG6 (Chromatica)

C2C and L4S are in their own categories (maybe "LGTB1 and 2")

ASIB and whatever she does for Joker will be a third category :partysick:

ALGAYDO

It’s a Gaga album without a doubt.

Is it part of her solo projects ala TF, BTW, etc,? No, because it’s a soundtrack album with Bradley.

But is it part of her music career? No ****, it spawned her biggest hit ever.

Fair points, thank you for clarifying! :vegas:

Controversiaga

It is not a Gaga album.  It is a movie soundtrack.

Pronounced like “Balenciaga” . Emphasis on the “Ga”
