Seattle fastest growing city in US again

Quite surprising. All other cities that are in the top 15 are mainly in the more conservative sunbelt states. Just about every other left-leaning city saw continued population decline. Bay Area cities, Portland, and New York were hit hard.

Honestly, I visited the Pacific Northwest last year for the first time, Vancouver to be exact, and I fell in love. I love the mountains, rain, pacific ocean and the mist/fog.

Is that because left states are so expensive to live in and ppl move out? Like California and NY?

Basically, yeah. That and the perception of crime in those cities has gotten worse since the pandemic and protests.
 

I think California will rebound though. It’s a very resilient economy and AI might be the next thing to pump blood back into Silicon Valley.

Wasn't California already stagnating in population before the recent tech struggles tho? That's a rather recent thing

Population started to stagnate/slow around 2016 as sunbelt cities began to rise. They dipped for the first time during the pandemic. I’m sure there’ll be some flux within the next decade but I don’t see it being permanent. California’s economy is very diverse and it’s not like the rust belt states that had everything tied to a few industries. The idea that California is done for is severely overblown by right-wing media.

No I agree with that in terms of economy. At least as far as GDP goes it's wealthy

 

But I wonder about quality of life given cost of living and that may partially reflect population stagnation

 

I mean the same kind of thing is happening here in Canada. Ppl moving out of expensive parts of the country and small cheaper provinces are growing fast for the first time since the 1970s cuz the supposed stronger economy and higher wages aren't worth the higher costs

 

Of course cuz immigration is so high the total population in these big cities still grows but looking at internal movement exclusively now ppl wanna move out of big cities and Provinces more than in
