"Ed Sheeran has bragged that he wrote seven of his new album’s songs in a combined two and a half hours. It’s easy to believe him." :air:

4th Time Around

Jesus Christ this review is brutal. I am no fan of Ed Sheeran by any means but this album genuinely has some good stripped down tracks, it is the best project he has released in awhile. 3.8 seems excessively harsh, but hey its Pitchfork and they have a history of totally trashing everything he has ever put out.

Hey, I'm king of the world, you ought to hear my song, you come on measure me, I'm twenty inches long

Idk man I’m sure he’s a nice guy but his music deserves this. He is objectively one of the most uninteresting, off-the-rack songwriters and is just massively overrated as a musical artist. He’s not untalented necessarily but there are literally thousands of artists who are just simply more deserving of his superfame by miles. Again, not judging his character bc he seems nice, but his catalog as a whole is just boring and truly not outstanding in any way. And no, unfortunately that is not a subjective opinion. Sometimes music is just slapping chords and lyrics into a record and if that’s your gig, so be it. Just don’t be surprised when people tear it up :kara:

I'm not a fan of him but I hate these toxic reviews, all they does is to drag the artist.

Are they supposed to be sucking up to bad artists with bad music?

I’m absolutely not defending Ed’s music, but this is most definitely a subjective opinion lmfao :ladyhaha:

I listened to the album. It's a huge step up from all of his previous work. The emotional songs all resonate very well, but it is also twice the length it needs to be and explores the same topic through multiple songs in a way that is the same from another. I think if you are going to explore the same topic, you have to do it in ways that remain interesting. The first half of the album, I would say, is great. The later half of the album is unnecessary.

The album should end with Borderline, but include Vega. Scrap everything else and it is a good listen for me. I would say that the album as it is is pretty deserving of this ranking, but if it was cut down a bit, it would improve the ranking. Remove Spark, Sycamore, No Strings, The Hills of Aberfeldy, and all the bonus tracks (since the regular version is not available to listen to on Spotify).

What? I can't take that seriously if the Collaboration project has the highest score. It's SO AWFUL! the worst of his works Subtract is a solid 6 to me haha
