Maxine Puth 9,052
I think the answers are a bit chaotic because the OP is a bit confusing with the question. Some people are answering X because “it sounds straight from the past” and some people are answering X because “I’ve grown disconnected from it”

Of course, a song that was released in 2008 sounds like 2008, a song released in 1988 sounds like the eighties. Why is that a bad thing? A song is a reflection of the state of the art at that time. Girls just wanna have fun is the epitome of 80s pop music but it’s one of the most important songs in recent musical history. It is actually rare that a song sounds absolutely timeless and it’s not even necessary for it to be timeless to be good. Even Running Up That Hill clearly sounds like an 80s song and people love it to this day. I totally agree with you. However, I feel like when most people talk about songs “not aging well” they simply mean that they don’t return to those songs often. Running Up That Hill sounds very 80s but it still sounds like a song you’d want to listen to in 2023, so I’d say it aged well.
