True but I believe people are able to spot a troll account except they already believe the misinformation and want to fuel their beliefs. Either way, I don't rely solely on twitter for information , actually no one should. We will be fine , they can do whatever they want

It's so funny to me that this guy bought one of the biggest social medias without knowing basic stuff. It's pretty obvious that with SM the users are the product, you should be offering them money to stay like YouTube, tiktok and twitch not trying to take money from them and then on top of that getting rid of verification... It's both hilarious and scary how much he's ****ed this up.

More and more celebs are leaving Twitter mainly because it's a toxic place where anybody can say hurtful things without even thinking a bit before posting. Most official accounts don't interact with followers anymore tbh.

I'm sure a lot celebs won't buy the Twitter check.

Especially if Gaga doesn’t pay, then someone else can create a fake account and pay and the fake account will be “verified” when that word will actually not be true at all. They should just change “verified” to “paid subscriber” and not even try to perpetuate the illusion that the mark is any proof at all that the person is actually who they say they are.

We should assume any remaining blue checks are fake until we hear otherwise.

That said -- most of my follows dropped it. A few have a new, grey check, which is described as "This account is verified because it is a government or multilateral organization account."

The remaining ones -- possibly "paid for" by Elon (see above) -- as of now, are: Madonna, Alanis Morissette, Susanna Hoffs, and Bill Nye. (Plus one non-famous person who I know actually paid for it, but I unfollowed her.)

So... Twitter (and other social media) introduce a checkmark to verify to the public that people of notoriety are who they say they are, and the other copycat accounts aren't them.. then Elon decides to take that away and let anybody buy a checkmark which literally means nothing now? And now we can't tell which accounts are the official ones or not? Pathetic
