Musk works on TruthGPT despite calling for AI development to be stalled

Elon Musk is working on an alternative to OpenAI’s popular chatbot ChatGPT that is a “maximum truth-seeking AI” he calls “TruthGPT”.

In an interview on Monday with Fox News host Tucker Carlson, the Twitter chief said the AI will try to “understand the nature of the universe” and might be the “best path to safety” as it is “unlikely to annihilate humans”.
Musk has “secured thousands of high-powered GPU processors from Nvidia” that will aid his goal of building an AI language model similar to ChatGPT, according to the FT’s report.

Last month, Musk joined with more than 1,000 experts in signing an open letter advocating for a six-month pause in the development of advanced AI systems. The letter argued the pause was necessary to protect the public until proper safety protocols have been developed and vetted by independent experts for the industry.

Insider reported last week, however, that Musk is also secretly working on an AI project at Twitter. The report noted that Musk has already poached two AI scientists from firms like DeepMind and has invested in 10,000 graphics processing units for the company.

Of course he is. I think most people assumed that was the reason he was suddenly calling for that, so that he could attempt to catch up. Many technical sectors in general are in works of developing their own alternative. It is not surprising that a business wants in on a business model.

he just wanted his competitor(s) to pause, so that he can catch up to them, not b/c he cares about the risks.

anyways, Musk was dumb b/c he left OpenAI (Musk was a co-funder of the company behind ChatGDP but left it) and he underestimated back then the power of OpenAi and now he regrets it but maybe it's too late
