Kelsea Ballerini performs with drag queens at CMT Awards

Kelsea Ballerini performed with Manila Luzon, Kennedy Davenport, Jan Sport, and Olivia Lux last night at the Country Music Awards. The awards were in Texas, but I wish they would have been in Tennessee. Although, I'm sure Texas isn't far behind in their banning drag legislation. I'm glad she did this with an awards show that has a mostly conservative audience. Someone even made the comment that she staged it just right so they couldn't not show the queens. :firega:

Let me go add some of her music to my library.

Almost all her audience is country based, none of them will accept this, so I wonder how her career will survive? Even someone as big as Kacey Musgraves got effected by this, and now shes not accepted at mainstream or country shows.

I’ve never even heard of this guy. But also maybe we talk about all the white men that kill people? I think her career will survive. She’ll have enough people on her side. Not everyone is a bigot.

It is extremely hard to keep my opinions on the whole church school shooting thing to myself because if I say anything I'm pretty sure I'll be put on a... not very nice list :franminervini:

Well I'm going to say this. Maybe if people had been more accepting like Kelsey is trying to show them, this trans person would have never felt the need to do what they did. Not that makes it okay by any means. I mean I was having this conversation with my mom about maybe if Christians were more accepting and loving like we claim to be, people wouldn't hate us so much. Anyway, I could get on a soapbox about it as I'm sure you could.

The comments are wild.

“It’s evil and disrespectful to show drag queens days after a trans person committed mass murder”

Crying over drag queens on TV, equating drag to trans, ignoring every single mass shooting done by a cis white male and focusing only on the ones done by LGBT+ individuals in order to feed an anti-LGBT narrative. like, do these “Christians” not hear themselves?? How can people be so stupid??

It’s not stupidity, it’s just convenient

This is literally making excuses for it..

Im a Muslim Arab, and I would never say something like if America didnt bomb us, a Muslim Arab terrorist wouldnt have killed children and civilians.

Making an excuse for something isn’t the same as looking for the reasoning behind something.

Nobody is saying “it’s okay that X did Y because Z did W”

like when people say that straight cis white men make up the majority of mass shooters because they’re radicalized by right-winger, they’re not saying it’s okay for straight cis white men to shoot up school, just getting to the reason why they did it.

I think there is a time and place to talk about that. If a white person just did a school shooting, and my comment was about how society today doesnt treat men good and explain how they are falling behind, it would look weird.

Franch Toast

I actually watched most of the show, and I felt like it was trying to challenge the typical narrative associated with country music. Gwen performed "Just a Girl" (the rock version, not a countrified version) with Carly Pearce, and Alanis Morissette sang "You Oughta Know." I teared up when Kelsea started the show dedicating it to the victims of the Nashville shooting and talking about her own experience witnessing a classmate being shot to death when she was only 15. My friend who lives in Austin was able to attend the show thanks to her husband's work, and she said there was a lot of support there for Kelsea & the drag queens and the "non-traditional" performers
