I read the text before the score and I thought it would be much lower, the writing is HARSH :icant:

This is because the person who wrote the review didn’t come up with the score.

Pitchfork’s scores are an average calculated from polling several of their critics, but they only assign one writer to write the actual review. Sometimes (most of the time actually) there’s a big disconnect between the score and the write up and it’s because the score and the write up are sourced from different places.

I listened to the whole album after looking forward to it since I was a huge fan of Treat Me, For The Night, Have Mercy and Body Do.

I was disappointed. HOWEVER, it's only because of personal tastes. I can absolutely see it being a banger to some people, just not for me.

This review was way too harsh tbh.

After Pray It Away I was expecting just a few songs to be that laid back or ballad-y but then more than hald of the album is like that :air: I love In Pieces (the track) tho

I honestly don't feel it. There are a few tracks I really like but I feel like all the magic and freshness of Chloe x Halle has somehow completely vanished from this record. Chlöe is an amazing singer, writer and producer and some of these songs were barely even written by her at all (i.e. she doesn't have a writer credit on the music for 6 of the songs) and has hundreds of co-songwriters on songs that really don't stand out for the most part imo. Her mixtape with her sister was just the two of them and had a lot more interesting ideas, melodies and harmonies. I'm still rooting for her success but I really hope she eventually blooms into the visionary artist I'm sure she can be!
