William Shatner who is 91 says he turned down many documentaries before but that he decided to now accept one because he's aware he doesn't have long to live. He has grandchildren and says this is a way of reaching out and leaving something behind

Shatner has been candid about his feelings towards death and end of life before and admits it's something that terrifies him

this is so touching and sad. we always assume old ppl just learn to be "ok" with death but the truth is...time flies yall. Before we know it we will be in our 60s, 70s, 80 and God willing 90s too. It will happen SUPER quickly too and I dont think everyone just becomes this mystic wise man/woman who can just accept the inevitability of death...it's frightening  indeed and when you hit your older years and realize you have little life left (even if you are super healthy) is kind of scary AF. Like realistically, if you make it into your 70s you sort of know that death can just happen at any moment even if you are just sitting home doing nothing. Obviously this is true of young ppl too cuz we can all die at any moment but when you are old you have the added thought of just being old and how at some point he human body just gives up...

I respect him for doing this and his family will really appreciate having this to look back on when the inevitable does indeed occur

Especially late 80s and 90s onward (which he's reached)

Typically in your 70s the odds of dying suddenly if your healthy and just giving out is still pretty low. Like a sudden heart attack, heart failure or stroke that kills u all of a sudden is common at that age but more so if you have health problems of some kind. If you are healthy and strong that typically doesn't happen at that age often yet...

But once you kinda hit your mid to late 80s... That's an age where despite being healthy you can easily die in your sleep or even drop dead in the middle of the day with little warning signs... Or suddenly get I'll and have some warning  but deteriorate super quickly like one week your fine the next your in the hospital shutting down

It's scary. If I was 91 I'd still be scared of a sudden turn for the worst even if I was in good shape. It happens all the time

Edit: about the part of assuming old people are ok with it, maybe unpopular opinion here but I think that's a bit of propaganda in society tbh.

We talk about golden years and making peace and come to terms with death and ppl even tell themselves they don't wanna live past 70 but tbh unless someone really hates living or is suffering life in agony I don't think anyone truly comes to terms with it and welcomes death...

Ppl say that and convince themselves of that to make themselves feel better as a coping mechanism and ppl repeat those words. At least that's my opinion about it anyway

At least William Shatner for many years has been honest with himself about that, that he doesn't want to die and wants to live as long as possible. I remember an interview like 10 years ago and he was bluntly saying he was terrified of death and thinks about it all the time. I appreciate that honesty from him tbh
