Fuffy 821
I was shook at this title but then I read the article and it doesn't look as bad. The marriage age in Canada is 16 with parental consent. I think the UK had the same age with parental consent needed until recently, so 16 isn't too out of the ordinary. Though I'm surprised how judges can rule on kids younger than 16 getting married, I'm hoping that never happens and exists just as a "what if" clause to protect kids. Hopefully no reasonable judge ever agrees to let that happen. Personally I think it should be 18 in line with everything else but this isn't as crazy as I read it.

elijahfan 22,547
So people under 18 are considered mature enough to marry, but not to vote? Add this to the list of endless American double standards and contradictions. Of course people marrying as young as 16 isn't unheard of, my grandma did. You know, last century. 4

Not really. In my home state, no one under any circumstance can be married under the age of 18. WV law allows 16 year olds to be married with parental consent and anyone younger than that to be married with a judge's waiver. Edited March 9 by deactivated001

Scar97 796
Im not saying it’s right, but I imagine the argument is if two teenagers 16 or under have a baby, they can marry so their child isn’t “illegitimate”.
