noa234 5,063
The singing, the look, the dancing ugh. It gave us a taste of what a Bionic tour would have been like. Xtina gave up WAY too fast with this era. Its like the first 2 singles didnt do great so she just let the entire era go. The album had SO much potential. Chlorine 47,976
It reminds me that the music was quite good and interesting this era. The problem with her is that her reinventions started to feel very forced and contrived starting with B2B and she never quite found herself as a visual artist, IMO. COOOK 76,406
There wasn't a tour? I'm shook, this album was so mistreated. But what happened really? I only remember the Gaga comparisons... was that strong enough for both Christina and the label to give up on Miss Bionica? Maybe @bionic can gives us more light on the matter
Guest
I may be in the minority here, as most seem to dislike her on this site. But it makes me sad what happened with Xtina and her career, she was a major trend setter back in the day with albums like Stripped and B2B, even with Bionic (the first pop girl to work with Nicki Minaj and Sia) It’s strange how she kind of just gave up on music after Lotus and disappeared from the spotlight. She still has her legacy and continues to inspire a new generation, I went to her show in Liverpool last year she was incredible! One of the best voices EVER! Incredible woman. I agree she has an incredible voice and seemed to recede but she didn’t totally disappear. She was an original judge on The Voice and helped to establish that into the giant success it became and she’s still recording now.
Anderson123 38,501
I remember living the pre Bionic era. Reading about writers, producers, interviews, pictures, etc. I like the album but the final product was not that good. I wish she'd have kept working with Ladytron and Goldfrapp. She had some really nice ideas of what she wanted to do but probably forced to make it a more commercial album and that's understandable, she's a popstar. Such a shame Birds of Prey and Little Dreamer were thrown as bonus tracks and we never got Kimono Girl.

Maybe @bionic can gives us more light on the matter The tour was announced in May (arena tour) to kick off in July and less than two weeks after it was announced it was cancelled. X said it was to ‘focus on Burlesque’ (which IIRC was doing reshoots at that point in time) but even the most delusional of stans accept that it was mostly because of poor ticket sales (I had tickets ) with a small sprinkling of the fact that her marriage was collapsing. Leona Lewis (pre-flopping) was going to be the opening act, so I guess they had high expectations for it. A lot of stans will say to this day that Xtina should’ve sucked it up and did a tour of smaller venues and try and cement a legacy as a touring artist (like Pink did after her album Try This flopped) but IDK how woeful the ticket sales were. Regarding the album in general, it started off on the wrong foot when the album took over production and forced Xtina back into the studio. The album was original more akin to Birds of Prey, Little Dreamer etc. Songs like Not Myself Tonight (which ended up being the lead single) was a more commercial-friendly song the album forced in the re-recording session. I personally don’t think X cared too much for the final product as it was not at all what her original vision looked like (and if it were in line with her original vision probably would be at least remembered as a strong somewhat experimental EDM record rather than an already dated one) so when it flopped, along with her marriage breakdown, she was more than happy to let it go Obviously we got The Voice from it which did rehabilitate her image (or at least public recognition) a bit
Guest
Bionic is SEVERELY underrated. It is one of the best pop albums and deserves so much more respect, but people like to think they are funny, so they diss it from its lack of sales. Sad! The music speaks for itself and it gives everything and more. It is her magnum opus. Probably in the top 10 albums to be released in 2010. (It did need way better album art though imo!!) Thomas P 18,479
I’d say this album is her second best after stripped, and is truly quite great (except for the commercial singles that ended up taking over). The visuals as a whole were a bit messy, and they were clearly forcing her into a Gaga box (visually and a little sonically with the singles), but the original vision for the album, the more experimental songs, etc. they are genuinely some of her best and signalled a bunch of trends that were to come down the line. I’m a simple guy to please, if you like Melodrama, we chill.

Justice for "Red Hot Kinda Love", the hit that got away Seems like with Aguilera she moved a little bit more though

Reject False Icons 4,770
It’s incredible to me how 2010 saw the biggest rise of pop divas and also had the biggest pop albums failures, even though they were pure gold and had everything to become classics as other divas albums I love Xtina and Bionic is probably my favorite album of her. But I really cannot fathom the power that some people in the media had to SEVERELY damage her career, after that a chain-effect for years occurred leaving her from a trendy singer with great voice and great creative projects to another pop diva from the past Without a doubt what Gaga said that staying is harder than starting in the entertainment industry is absolutely true
ryanxjensen 134
She gave us a bit of a glimpse into what the Goldfrapp era would’ve been with this album, then she went in a different direction with Bionic..
