Eh, I wouldn't say Chromatica under performed. If anything, I was kind of shocked (NGL) that it opened to with over 200k....traditional pop is struggling right now (it's all about pop rock/alternative/rap hip-hop). Dua was the exception, not the rule, and in the US Dua's album only opened with around 70k....the label really pushed her hard here even if she's massive in Europe so it had legs but its opening numbers in the US really weren't that impressive (streaming either). I do agree that it's probably a bad idea if she drops later than this summer, especially as sales are even lower than expected with a lot of big acts due to streaming and the reason chart changes. Then again, I think the logical thing is she drops this spring/summer even if fans are convinced it's going to be forever. Ga simply isn't powerful enough to keep putting it off...the label was even allegedly angry at Adele of all people for taking forever....there's no way they would be okay with her taking 4-5 years. Look at the way she delivered the chromatica ball, haus labs rebrand, the commercial. She is just being stealthy to ensure maximum impact and payoff - not quitting. Baby after the chromatica ball she’s not doing theaters bc she took 5-6 years to drop an album lmao she’s at a level of fame now where bc she’s also in film her name is in people’s mouths. The new pop girls are inspired by her. Drag queens are inspired by her. She’ll be selling out stadiums, for sure lmao chromatica did what it needed to do. It didn’t have to be THE hit album (though it was pretty big); it needed a hit single which it got with RoM. Then the tour was considered her best since TMB. That’s pretty spectacular.
