Woody Harrelson's SNL monologue makes COVID conspiracy jokes

Woody Harrelson is under fire for referencing his controversial stance on vaccination and the COVID-19 pandemic in his opening monologue of the Feb. 25 episode of “Saturday Night Live.”

The actor, who took to the stage for his fifth time as “SNL” host, proceeded to ramble off a story that all hinged around the “craziest script” he’s ever read. After several minutes of getting distracted talking about smoking weed, drinking and what kind of tree he was sitting under, the actor describes the aforementioned script.

“So the movie goes like this,” Harrelson explains. “The biggest drug cartels in the world get together and buy up all the media and all the politicians and force all the people in the world to stay locked in their homes. And people can only come out if they take the cartel’s drugs and keep taking them over and over.”

“I threw the script away,” Harrelson continued. “I mean, who was going to believe that crazy idea? Being forced to do drugs? I do that voluntarily all day.”

A few online viewers took to Twitter shortly after the live broadcast, torching the sketch show for airing the monologue: “Thank you, @nbcsnl, for Woody Harrelson’s insipid anti-vax monologue,” producer Lee Goldberg posted.

The “Champions” star has previously been pinned to a slew of conspiracy theories related to the coronavirus pandemic. In an interview with Vanity Fair he called the mask-wearing “absurd” and explained that he hasn’t gotten COVID because he’s “internally clean.” He also posted (and later deleted) an Instagram post that accused the 5G networks for spreading COVID.

I just watched this ENTIRE MONOLOGUE, not just this snippet. What he's talking about is a movie script he passed on. The monologue was little weird but I don't think he went "anti-vax". He just was being a comedian.

Controversiaga

That seems very opposite of SNLs usual political stance

Pronounced like “Balenciaga” . Emphasis on the “Ga”

I watched SNL last night. It was not anti vax it was about a script for a movie. The entire punch line was that he loves to smoke pot so he couldn’t imagine a movie where they forced u to take a drug, which he went back to his point of how no one could ever force him to smoke pot cuz he would do it voluntarily.

I am 100% pro vax but if someone doesn’t want it - just stay away from me. Or get sick, idk.

but this post seems inaccurate and click bait.

Yas!! Had nothing to do with being anti vax or politics. He’s a comedian. The entire punch line was about how he loves to be stoned. I didn’t think his monologue was that funny, but maybe it was because I was watching it after a long day at work.

regardless, not anti vax. People really seem to just take something small like a snippet and run with it without full context. This is what the digital age has done to us. Pure Click bait for attention and reactions.

I’m sure the OP didn’t mean any harm by sharing it here though. But that twitter account clearly needs some attention lmfao

Taking things out of context and spreading misinformation is what this community advocates against. This has the ability to damage a man's career - people already are jumping on him for saying something that he was clearly not. I think you should delete this OP.
