Dope is so sad

I watched Lady Gaga's performance of Dope for the first time in 9 years, and it's just hit me how sad it is, how sad she is. If you've not seen this before, I seriously recommend it. It's only from watching it now that you can see how much our Gaga has grown. I'm so proud of her.

An extract from a news article about her performance in 2013
'When Lady Gaga gave a tearful performance of her new song "Dope" – attacked by the newspaper for being "deeply strange and out-of-tune" – more than 4,000 viewers left the stream.'

I think I actually enjoy it more in the form of I Wanna Be With You because it’s not so sad to listen to.

Dope might be the better version but it’s very depressing.

I remember hearing her perform Gypsy and Dope on the Howard stern show in 2014 and tearing up... meanwhile everyone, including her own fans, on GGD and Twitter were talking so much **** about her voice and how they hate the song and her new vocals blah blah blah. I still remember

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

This is wild to me...a bit sad too. There's nothing wrong with not liking anything, but berating is an entirely different level of criticism.

This was the day her team literally left her and she felt so alone, betrayed and abandoned, and the performance really conveys that.

She was in the middle of her promotion and the entire era was crashing down around her, all while little monsters expectations were extremely beyond realistic (I understand the hype built up around this especially on the back of the BTW era)

Things changed when her management left her.

Like she said in Perfect Illusion, she's over the show, yeah at least now she knows, it wasn't love, it wasn't love, it was a perfect illusion (T*oys management relationship with her)

The song its self is sad and about an entirely different struggle, but for her to release that song then have her manager leave her side and lose faith in her, then to go out and perform it..

That's my super star.

The melody that you choose can rescue you ♥

Yes, it’s one of her best songs! I am glad to see people praising it and it’s live performance(s)

Gaga put pure emotion into it and it’s a literal lyrical masterpiece. Also it’s super underrated and I actually like her tone on it despite most people not being a fan of her “Dope” voice!

The vocals are supposed to be like the way they are featured in Dope. It’s her song, her vision.

Anyone can cover the song and sing it differently. I mean on YouTube or at karaoke. Not on an album without permission from Gaga’s camp.

Probably an unpopular opinion, but I love Dope much more than I Wanna Be With You, even if it makes me cry. Dope is a full masterpiece.

Have we ever had a leak of the studio version of i wanna be with you?

I remember her teasing it on BTW ball and it had such a burst of light amidst the darkness of her emotions.
