141 countries demand immediate withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine

On the eve of the anniversay of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the U.N General Assembly passed a resolution calling on the immediate withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine. The resolution was approved by 141 countries. Unfortunately, because Russia has veto power, U.N Security Council is unlikely to pass such a resolution.

China is likely to announce their own peace plan tomorrow. But skeptics in the West believe it's part of its charm offensive to sway Europe and the South and is unlikely to pressure Russia to make peace.

Why exactly did 180 countries send their representatives to waste their time with this meeting?

If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.

That's the nature of the U.N sadly, but it does reflect at least what the international community thinks is the right thing to do. Enforceability is hard however. Even if veto did not exist, how can NATO for example enforce such a resolution without starting WW3

I'm curious about how many of those abstentions were just "I agree with Russia but I don't want to look bad".

This means nothing to Russia but go off queens

Tbh. I've lost track of how many times Russia was condemned by courts (like the European supreme Court) for different things even before the war started and Russia never gave in to a single demand about anything

Certainly not for this will it matter to Putin
