Latin Grammys to be held in Spain, leaving US for 1st time

The next Latin Grammy Awards gala will be held in southern Spain, leaving the United States for the first time, the head of its organization said Wednesday.

Latin Recording Academy CEO Manuel Abud and the regional president for Spain’s Andalusia region made the announcement in Seville.

“That the Latin Grammys will leave the United States for the first time is reason for special celebration, and what better place to hold them than Andalusia,” Abud said.

Regional president Juan Manuel Moreno said the awards show would be held in November. Neither the specific dates nor the host city were given.

Although technically you are correct, it is well known that the Latin term is more used to refer to people from South America (plus Mexico) and not countries with languages derived from Latin, even until recently for the people of Spain it was an insult that People referred to them as Latinos and they only wanted to appropriate the term when it started to be popular.

Lmao as a latino living in spain myself, with my whole family in here, that is def not true. Americans love to put that narrative of racism without even knowing what they are talking about. But that's not even my point at all, latin refers to the language, so spain is a latin country just like Mexico.

It is well known, maybe in english speaking countries. In its translation to spanish, everyone gets that latin comes from the language and not latin america, so the point of the Grammys going to spain is, well, correct, and that was my whole point

Believe me, no one outside America cares about this  this whole spain vs latin america is so ironically american that no one outside the US really goes that deep into it. In the real world, everyone gets that Latin America gets that name from the fact there are latin languages involved, just as in Spain. No one thinks that "latin" means "mexico" and adding Spain into that list is some form of racism or thing like that. No one outside, of course, the US, as always.
