P!nk album review - another unstimulating record from the department store hitmaker

Since the mid-2010s, P!nk songs have been deigned to a playlist of corporate fodder that selects inoffensive, bland slices of pop (think songs you’d hear at any department store). [...]

TRUSTFALL is largely an introspective record – mostly quiet and tepid, breaking out in select moments.

The title track picks up the pace with its pulsating synths, but is hindered by its anonymous lyricism
“What if we just fall? / I’m not going without you / And you’re not going alone”

The lead single, which wins the award for clunkiest title (“Never Gonna Not Dance Again”) has a video that sees her giving away her dog before her dancing shoes, against a disco beat seemingly employed because it’s trendy and not because she wants to.

The closest she gets to her old heights is “Hate Me,” where she takes on the role of the villain with no real memory of when the culture made her the 'monster' she describes. Playing this role worked well for people like Taylor Swift, who was actively hated, but it’s hard to imagine anyone having any strong feelings about P!nk. “I’m not your b*tch / Wanna light me up like an evil witch,” she sings anyway.

The album’s lowest moments – where it truly feels like you’re listening to nothing – are ballads that plod along with a litany of guests such as The Lumineers, First Aid Kit, and Chris Stapleton.  [...]

There are no hits on TRUSTFALL. Zero songs you’d include on a list about how unique an artist P!nk is.

One could guess she wants to rid herself of the party-girl persona in an attempt at maturity, but other artists late in their careers (Kylie Minogue, Madonna, Kate Bush) have grown while still evolving, their shock value and public interest stable with age. P!nk, on the other hand, has flattened over time.
She mentions mid-way that she wants to “pop and lock to her records,” and it’s easy to surmise that the songs in question are all pretty far in the past.

I really frown upon reviews like this.  The idea that anything less than groundbreaking is a fail is annoying.

When you write music, it comes to you and it's just a pleasant creative experience where at the best of times you take what flows and resonates with how you feel.  And the people who vibe with what your soul interprets are your fans.  Rejecting what's coming and pushing and working to be different and unique is something you can do, but why can't artists just do what they do without being put down.

I used to love pink but I gotta agree, everything has been underwhelming the past decade or so. Artistic freedom is great to witness for an artist but that doesn’t always equate to something everyone is going to like. To end on a high note…

I used to stan Pink but haven't listened to an album since The Truth About Love. They all sound the same, cover the same topics. Where is the growth? Where is the artistry?

Such a shame a review like this is already out because I'm very excited to listen to it. It's supposed to be more personal and according to P!nk her favorite, she has never said that. As much as I liked Beautiful Trauma and a couple of stuff from Truth About Love and Hurts 2B Human, I was expecting Trustfall to be better than these 3 latest releases. I mean I love the title track, it's the best song she has released since Just Give Me A Reason or maybe even Sober.

The reviewer just seems bitter. Ironically, Pink has moved on to greener pastures and the reviewer still wants 2010 Pink lmao. I get not everyone loves BT or H2BH, but she still puts in so much effort in her new songs.

There's this strange notion amongst fans that because a critic didn't like a movie/album/whatever, the critic must have been expecting something "revolutionary" or "groundbreaking". It's not that deep. Pink is a phenomenal singer with attitude, wisdom, grit, and tons of life experience. Expecting an album of hers to encompass the facets that make her a star isn't asking for the moon, it's asking for a standard that she hasn't been meeting for some time now.

I feel like they expect female popstars to always do a 180 with their sound and image. Meanwhile Bruno can come up with another 70’s or 80’s throwback, The Weeknd with 80’s synth pop or Ed Sheeran with more of the same and they don’t over analyze them like this. P!nk is still one of best performers today and her shows are always packed.
