I feel like if the artist this is directed towards *also* wrote on the song and was the main artist, these people don't have the right to sell it to someone else anyhow  It's that person's song. Am I crazy?

it isn't that person's song. it's a song of all creators. songwriters don't earn much even from songs that are officially released and if any artist leaks a demo they can't earn anything from this or reuse their lyrics/melodies in the future.
