Also, I'm....70% sure Kelly gets paid for the Xtina version as well (but don't quote me on that ). And it's not like he's the only problematic person in her discography either. There's plenty, as with most artists. And good! It's good that you're picky about that kind of stuff, I hope people can pirate too if they can't resist playing, but you can't expect everyone else to jump through those same hoops. I mean, I literally said that I agree with your sentiment, I just think you're far too rigid with it when it comes to expecting others to meet your standards. I did buy the album - we weren’t to know what was to be revealed after it came out, just like how HP fans weren’t to know what JK would turn into. I don’t judge people for previously enjoying the books, films etc

It’s honestly incredible the holes people will dig to justify supporting it. We’ve had people saying they’ll buy products brought out by nazi’s, people saying it’s pushing them to be Conservatives/Republicans… Maybe if you need equivalencies like that… you’re on the wrong side? I don’t know, maybe that’s me

Most that are fans of Harry Potter know about Rowling. And they've weighed the impact of their purchase. It's funny that your political cartoon talks about the flaws in society yet you use society as your justification for the use of smartphones and the internet. Finding something more fundamental than something else based on personal belief is its own fallacy. If I weren't part of the LGBT community and one of my interactions with people who are allies/part of the community/have the trans flag in their name was them spoiling the game for me, I'd be turned away from being an ally. If I was chastised and judged constantly for my decision to spend money on something that's gotten me through rough times in my life I'd be turned off from being an ally. What people don't understand or don't care to emphasize with is that this IP has gotten people through some dark things as kids/teens. If not just brought joy. People have always envisioned Hogwarts and dreamt of it as kids, and this is the closest they'll get to experiencing a manifestation of that without paying for a plane and theme park ticket. The trans community and "allies" are purposefully depriving others of joy because they've decided that their feelings are more important than others'. And that's what's really bothered me about the attack on this game. I've put maybe $3 in Rowling's pocket, which effectively does nothing. But at the same time I've put $100s into the pockets of charities who's missions are to advance LGBT rights. I mean I look at the news and see the right wing hate groups protesting outside government buildings that J K donates to and supports after bragging about how much money she makes. If that’s weighing up and justifiable to her fans… you can see WHY so many people are judging those buying the games.

But hear me out. I still truly see myself in the center but the left has become dominated by this faction, it's mirroring what the far right did back in 2016. I can't fit in because open discussion gets you banned or exiled. I'd say this makes me conservative, or a soft one, because I want to keep the same tenet of freedom of choice without judgement, even with its flaws. I don't want us to live in a self-proclaimed progressive society where a small group of individuals uses morality to dictate everyone's actions and stops them from discussing issues with respect and tolerance. I'd rather we "restart and respect" conversations with a logical mindset over an emotional/protective one. And yep, that also includes far-right people. The fact I can't even play a video game without being judged or made to feel morally inferior just feels like a waste when we have much bigger social issues in the world that have more direct impact. I just wish people would use this anti-Hogwarts energy to support their government or charities in helping LGBTQ+ people in countries where they are killed for being who they are. I understand your point but it’s a paradox. Those “bigger social issues” are literally being funded by people using their money to buy this game. It keeps those spreading hate bankrolled, that’s the problem. If you want to play the game, great - go pirate it. You don’t need to make the choice to give your money to the very problems you’re claiming to hate.

This is something widespread to every social platform at the moment to the point people have disengaged from those social communities. As part of the LGBT community I understand the hurt they have from her statements and I see the inequality they experience. But others, particularly those more self-involved and less socially aware, will not see that. And that's where the local minority is turning away would be allies. By giving a foul first impression. I see your point, I do, and I understand it 'cause I used to have the same view but I've changed that overtime 'cause it kinda overlaps with the idea that people like Rowling or Dave Chappelle wouldn't be as bad as they are if the trans community wouldn't have pushed back against their transphobia. It makes sense on the surface but to me, it sounds a bit victim blamey. And people who are turned away from being allies by something that trivial weren't really dedicated allies to begin with and the LGBT community likely was already not a part of their decision making when it comes to who to vote for or what they give their money to. Just my two cents

I feel like I'm getting old here but I have no idea who the heck morgan wallen is For the average joe out there they will hear music and enjoy it for what it is. There's plenty of huge music artists that have done some terrible stuff but people separate the art from the artist and continue to listen to their music. You don't need to like the person or make sure all of your morals and beliefs align with theirs to make sure it's ok to like their music. You twisted my words a bit. I didn't say it didn't matter, trans rights do matter, I said her opinion ultimately doesn't matter. She's still wrong and 1 in 8 billion. But no, if this guy is racist I don't agree with him, I wouldn't let him discriminate. Some people are in for a rude awakening of equality.

Just my two cents I would argue that the onus never fell on trans people in these instances with Rowling and Chapelle - it was and continues to be on the non-trans people adding to the rage and anger without actually using their privilege to educate and advocate for the trans community My issue is with these so-called allies that just troll and mock otherwise well-intentioned people. It's all about an ego stroke for them, and not actually converting supporters or advocating for the trans community. They cosplay trans anger and then get to call themselves a good person when all they did was throw more gas on the fire... there are examples of that behaviour in this very thread, actually

That's fair, I appreciate you for listening and not jumping to conclusions. I do admire people like you who can still to these principles, and I get your logic. But I just think it's a lot of effort for minimal gain compared to and the guilt-tripping that some people is quite cruel. Plus it can feel like a popularity contest on who can be the most "non-offensive" that society feels very ingenious because people need to behave perfectly. I think as humans we desperately want ethical consistency (hence why we made religion) but forget that ethics are complex, flexible, man-made constructs that are paradoxical in reality. We can't appease everyone without some contradiction. And yeah, you make a good point on pirating it. I just don't really like that doing that as, if I'm honest, I'd like to pay the company to make another game. But I get your logic and appreciate it! Now see I don’t think asking people to think carefully about where they get their entertainment from (games, music etc.) is a big ask of effort from them - there’s A LOT of alternatives out there. The equivalence people have used in this thread like smart phones or social media is basically asking someone to be cut off from modern society, which is very different than asking someone to not buy a game. It’s a personal issue for me having trans friends and working closely with trans colleagues. I don’t appreciate others (not you) labelling an issue close to them as something about being “woke” or for others egos. We all have different ethics and morals, some flexible in different situations but the sacrificing of a game from a specific franchise shouldn’t be a big ask. Especially when it can be ethically used via other means.
