FfFfFfFF 58,133 Posted February 9, 2023 Share Posted February 9, 2023 The fortifications that defended the borders of the Roman Empire on the current territory of Romania at the time could enter the UNESCO World Heritage. The Dacian Limes, as they are known to specialists, represented the longest sector of the Roman land border in Europe. The Limes Dacicus file was submitted on January 31, 2023 to UNESCO. It is not a single site, but a route of approximately 900 kilometers that starts at Drobeta, circles the center of Transylvania to Râșnov and from there descends on the Olt line to the Danube. The Romanian defensive system - known to specialists as "limes" included 80 castres, of which 27 are documented in the file - among them the one in the photo, at Bologa, in Cluj County. Between these fortifications there could be walls, earthworks or other defensive constructions. Romania currently has 16 sites on the UNESCO list ; of which 12 cultural and four natural. However, inclusion on this list does not bring any form of funding from the international organization. The list is actually a brand, a mark of the quality of the respective site. It could be described as a list of the most important cultural and natural monuments of the world, a list of places, constructions and archaeological sites of extraordinary importance for all humanity and whose loss would be irreplaceable.
