I present this list to act as a bit of perspective...

Major names who have NEVER won a Grammy

Bob Marley - 0 noms (except a Lifetime Achievement award)

Queen - 0 noms (except a few songs in the Grammy Hall of Fame and Lifetime Achievement Award)

Jennifer Lopez - 2 noms

Miley Cyrus - 2 noms

Kate Bush - 3 noms

ABBA - 5 noms

Lana Del Rey - 6 noms

Florence + The Machine - 7 noms

Avril Lavigne - 8 noms

Nicki Minaj - 10 noms

Katy Perry - 13 noms

Diana Ross - 13 noms

Bjork - 16 noms

Snoop Dogg - 17 noms

Major names who have very few Grammys

Kylie - 1

Britney Spears - 1

Lil Kim - 1

Cher - 1

Ariana Grande - 2

Justin Bieber - 2

Shakira - 3

The Weeknd - 4

So, yes, to act like losing AOTY is the worst thing in the world when your fave already has a ton of other awards, (and has been gaining them frequently for years) while other artists who are also highly commercially successful and influential are left out in the cold, is a bit of an overreaction.

Thank you.  Not to mention that your list isn’t even artists who never got AOTY, but like zero Grammys at all. Perspective.

mariah — she only has 5 grammys in her 30+ year career. she’s been nominated for aoty 3 times (debut, daydream, and teom) and was favored to win/sweep in 96 and 06 but just like beyonce she was only given genre-specific awards

also one sweet day and we belong together were both critical and commercial successes (2 of the longest running #1 songs) and did not win roty or soty. i know that the grammys aren’t awarding works for their commercial performance but you can’t deny the impact, legacy, and cultural significance of those records

Wow. Mimi should have won AOTY and def shook that we belong together never won either SOTY or ROTY.  I wonder if the winners were as shamed as Harry styles was, doubt it.

It's also worth noting that the Grammys are widely considered to be an American awards show for American artists. Most of the nominees and winners are American. That's why every country has their own version of the Grammys and there's even Latin Grammys because Latin artists are so wildly underrepresented even when they're widely known and living in America. For a non-American to win a Grammy, they generally have to be massively successful or the academy won't know or care about them so it's no surprise that many people don't put much stock in them when they're so nation-specific.

green day won roty and u2 won aoty and soty. it was a different time so i don’t think either were shamed (especially cause they all had huge eras) but the topic of mariah being snubbed was out there (there’s even a 20/20 interview with barbara walters asking mariah about it) since her 96 snub was such a big deal

First, I'd like to say that anyone who puts so much stock in these silly little awards that they get upset about Beyonce, Gaga, or anyone else getting snubbed needs to take a deep breath :laughga:

Celebrate the wins. It's nice when an artist you like wins and gets a bit of cute recognition. I'm happy Harry won 'cause I love his album and him as a person :flutter: but if he had lost? Would I care? Nope. 'Cause a trophy changes nothing when it comes to how iconic, culturally important, entertaining, etc an artist is.

Second, THE FACT THAT GAGA'S NEVER WON IS A CRIME :grr:

I wish she had won for love for sale because it seemed like such a good narrative for the academy to embrace, being Tony’s last album. I know it wouldn’t have been as satisfying for many because it’s not just her and it’s not her own songs, but I think it’s pretty clear that interpreting jazz is def part of the real her too. Anyways it wasn’t meant to be. I hope she doesn’t drift too far from music and after she wraps joker maybe she’ll release her AOTY!

Brooke Hoegan

The facts that:
1) her input in her music is basically telling what she likes and what not and adding harmonies and stuff is... well... at least it's something I guess...
2) her father is very close to Grammy committee since the times of Destiny's Child
are very telling.

I just cannot take people who whine about Beyonce not winning YET ANOTHER Grammy seriously.
Get over her and get over yourself. She IS very overrated and that's probably ok.
