thatfoxyfeeling 12,883
I just don’t get how from a business perspective this makes any sense. Netflix has been so successful in changing the entertainment industry mainly due to its social media presence. Have a look at Wednesday, it went viral on the internet and broke records. The more people that watch your content the better, even if not every single one is a paying customer. The streaming market is so competitive now I just can’t see Netflix benefiting from this. Jack3257 695
I’m a college student living out of state. I can’t use the same Netflix account I’ve used since high school? This is ridiculous. Furthermore, I’m studying to be a producer for film & television. I’ve actually done reports on their business model and the streaming wars, this will make their bad position worse. Check below for all the details you’ll need regarding sharing a password on Netflix. - Who Can Use a Netflix Account Now? Netflix accounts are still shareable, but only within one household. To ensure that your devices are associated with your primary location, Netflix is now asking users to connect to the Wi-Fi at your primary location, open the Netflix app or website, and watch something at least once every 31 days. - Can You Still Share Netflix With Someone Who Doesn’t Live With You? No, accounts are only meant to be used within one household. Netflix will prompt users who try to sign into your account elsewhere to sign up for their own account instead and block their access until they do. Netflix will NOT begin automatically charging account holders whose information is used outside of their homes. - Can You Still Use Netflix While Traveling? Signing into Netflix outside of your home may lead to the device in use being blocked from Netflix. This could prevent you from signing into new devices while traveling, but Netflix has devised a workaround. Traveling users who want to use Netflix on a hotel smart TV, company laptop, etc. can request a temporary code from the service when signing in. This will give them access to their account for seven consecutive days. - How Can You Prevent Netflix from Blocking Your Devices? Signing into home Wi-Fi at least once every 31 days on your devices will make them “trusted devices,” which Netflix will remember and leave unblocked. If your device has been blocked incorrectly, you’ll need to contact Netflix in order to get it unblocked. - How Will Netflix Know if You’re Not in Your Home/Primary Location? Netflix uses information such as IP addresses, device IDs, and account activity to determine whether a device signed into your account is connected at your primary location. If your device is being used outside your home by someone you haven’t authorized, you can sign into your account and sign out on all other devices, then change your password. https://thestreamable.com/news/confirmed-netflix-unveils-first-details-of-new-anti-password-sharing-measures https://help.netflix.com/en/ Good thing i never use Netflix. Taylucifer 5,078
crazy how they are doing this to increase profit when all it is going to do is drive customers away (especially younger ones who are using their parents account) and cause other people to cancel. anyway good luck to them I guess and I think they need a better business/pr team The Tortured Poets Department is out NOW
thisguyN 616
I dont understand why is everybody so mad. They provide a service - a costly service actually, and it’s only fair that they make sure subscriptions work in the way they are supposed to, so that they can support their business. Everybody I know (tbh including me), share netflix passwords. And it’s not much different than pirate actually. We can argue the pricing, the discounts for students, low income earners etc. but thinking that Netflix should allow people just to share their account left and right are being unfair - not only to netflix but also to the whole industry and creators whose livelihood depend on these 5-10€ we pay. Some people just expect to consume all the music, movies, shows, entertainment, online services all free of charge because it is “internet”, while all the generations before us have paid many times more money to own/rent these services. I'd object to that, and so would many others in similar situations. 2. Your plan does nothing in the case where people are willing to share not just the account, but also their profile. That's probably more than you think, especially once you start charging per profile. Fine. Still no account sharing, but each account is only one standalone profile that can't be shared. Every user has to sign up for their own individual account at a flat rate of $7, or $5 with ads. Just make it affordable for everyone. Tbh too many people leech of one paying user anyway so they should all be forced to pay towards it anyway sorryyyy. Whatever it is they could've done better than the current plan I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

Maybe it wouldn't be such a costly service for them to run if they didn't spend over $10 billion of their profit a year on Netflix original shows. Their original shows are so good but they just haemorrhage money. Somebody with a degree please explain in lamens terms to me how this is a profitable business structure? I just want to know I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.
