tiffa 169
Sorry Gaga but you're not Muslim PLEASE STOP wearing Burqa's its disrespectful How? I think having to wear a burqa is disrespectful. I think Gaga is making a statement, tbh. She's all about feminism. I really don't want Burqa to be the lead single. BTW was already controversial enough as a lead single, not to mention Judas. Why can't she just do something a tad more on the generic side, a la Bad Romance? Because that's NOT who Gaga is. ;) It is not true that non-muslims are required to wear burqa or niqab in islamic countries. For example, Saudi Arabia is known to have strict Shari'a law, and as far as I know foreign women in Riyadh walk with hair open, they just need to dress modestly, to have long skirts or dresses, loose clothing. If she would just wear it, ok, but I have bad feeling about this. Tara liked some of the pics on lm.com which show women taking off their burqas, showing naked breasts. If that is not disrespectful, I don't know what it is. If she's telling to Jakarta fans, I'm willing to cover up and still sing for you, out of respect, then no one would take offence, but who knows what are her reasons. I just wouldn't like it as a single, I can't imagine video for it. I agree, except I don't find it disrespectful for women to liberate and that's essentially all this is about. Liberation. Women are restricted in various countries and do not have the same rights as we do, as they should have.
Evanescence 3
Islamic Extremists >>>>> Christian Extremists We know their history Do you mean Islamic extremists are better or worse? Either way, both have had their fair share of inflicting pain on others in history.
tiffa 169
By your logic, we should ask Lady Gaga to stop lobbying for LGBT rights since that is the cause of heavy conflict in the USA right now. Moot. I highly doubt she's going to only wear a burqa. if people get turned off by that one image, then they would not be fans of her already. Right... I absolutely LOATHE the meat dress, being a vegetarian, but I am a Lady Gaga fan and I didn't turn away from her for it. I'm certainly not going to turned away because she's wearing a burqa... and the fact that people are surprised by this??? It's not like she hasn't done it before. How is this just now an issue? potprincess 0
She wore raw meat. She wears fur. She can wear a burqa too, I mean, it's just what Gaga does, you know? Plus, I love the idea of bruises showing underneath a burqa, the whole concept would be amazing. And no - that doesn't mean that she generalises the entire Islamic population but rather addresses one issue in particular. I can't believe how some people got all worked up over this, it's hilarious THIS!
lego 44,165
I agree, except I don't find it disrespectful for women to liberate and that's essentially all this is about. Liberation. Women are restricted in various countries and do not have the same rights as we do, as they should have. But you see, it doesn't mean that you are liberated if you take your clothes off. Many muslim women feel liberated as they don't need to be judged everyday based on how they look like, how trimmed bodies' are , they don't have the pressure to always ''look good'', to be just s-x objects for men to drool over or comment negativly about their looks etc. Take a look at this story: http://lauraofarabia...liberating.html Also when you talk about rights, some western european countries are working on laws to BAN the RIGHTS of muslim women to cover up! Isn't that insane? You want to FORCE on western believes and morals in BOTH muslim lands and christian/western lands, and muslims shouldnt have any say in it? How is that fair? As, I said, Gaga and generally western people don't know much about it, have lots of stereotypes and prejudices and it wouldn't hurt to do some research. And another thing comes to mind ( I will probably get stoned for this), US army have actually killed many women in niqabs and burqas (in Afghanistan and Iraq) and their children and just called it collateral damage, maybe she should address that issue first. refference: http://abcnews.go.co...ory?id=15897098 http://ncronline.org...ht-afghan-women http://www.guardian....ties-statistics http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civilian_casualties_in_the_War_in_Afghanistan_(2001รยขรขโยฌรขโฌลpresent) FreePalestine
potprincess 0
And yeah, I don't know who these people are. If one of them was the keyholder, I guess it's true that they really are giving it away to just anyone. None of those people were the key holders in Vancouver, check LM. I hope she does release burqa, and I hope it pisses all the oppressive mother****ers off. I'm all for respecting culture, unless an aspect of the culture is completely oppressive towards a whole segment of the population (lol, i.e., women). Besides, knowing her, it'll be the complete opposite and be about freedom and a fashion statement.

Burqa can be catchy as **** but it will not be a hit in the same vein as BR because of its title alone. I don't make those rules, that's just the way it is. Generic, by definition, means average or boring or subpar. I see what you mean if you mean to say more commercial or politically correct, but I certainly never want Gaga to ever release a song that is "generic", even if it's just a little. Compared to just about everything on BTW, Bad Romance is generic, in the definition that it has come to take in the music industry and stan bases. In production it slays, but it is not as complicated as some of the BTW instrumentals. And in content - well, it's a song about a, well, bad romance, lol. It was destined to be a radio smash. And that's what she needs to kick off the AP era, imo. Not a song titled Burqa that will stir up controversy regardless of what it is about. Just like someone said earlier, there was nothing that controversial about Judas, yet radio wouldn't play it and people wouldn't buy it simply based on its name. I do not want that happening again, especially with a lead single.

I have heard very few pop songs with lyrics like that (not the subjectmatter, but the way it is presented) and the production and overall sound sounded nothing like anything on the radio at the time. It was destined to be a smash because it was a fantastic song that was also catchy, not because it was "generic". And I know most people disagree, but I still think Judas only wasn't as successful because it came out so soon after BTW and right before Edge, both of which were hits. Just my opinion.
