We have so few beautiful architectural wonders and our cities are built rather unattractively with no care for beauty and only focusing on practicality of the buildings...in Europe and many other ancient parts of the world things are built tastefully. When you visit Spain, Turkey, Czechia etc...these nations care for their architecture and preserve gorgeous buildings and / or embellish them instead of destroying them and building only modern stuff. Not to mention the Slav migrations to the Latin and Greek-dominated Byzantine empire which eventually led to the birth of different groupins South Slavs that once the era of nation states came they ceased to co-exist. When Russia was rising up and starting to expand its influence in the Balkans it seemed like the Balkan nations of the Ottoman Empire would finally have a reliable ally, but turned out this was an illusion too.
