FfFfFfFF 58,071
The Netherlands wants to ban pets such as flat-faced dogs and cats with folded ears, which look sweet but suffer “miserable” health problems, the government said on Friday. Dutch Agriculture Minister Piet Adema said he would seek to outlaw the ownership of the designer breeds and to ban the publication of photos of them in advertising or on social media. “Dogs with snouts that are too short are constantly out of breath,” Adema said. Cat breeds with folded back ears also suffered health problems, he added. “This subject touches me as a minister but also as a human.” Source - https://www.scmp.com/news/world/europe/article/3207662/netherlands-ban-pets-flat-faced-dogs-cats-folded-ears-end-health-misery If you are an animal lover you would bring so much good into this world by simply rescuing an animal facing euthanasia! ScreamQueen007 415
That Adam Singer guy doesn’t know what he’s talking about. He’s completely ignorant of what goes on in the animal world. There are so many people in the dog breeding business that try to breed types of dogs that shouldn’t be bred together and then charge thousands of dollars to people who think the result of that breeding is “cute”, completely disregarding the health problems that come with it. Same with cats, for instance, the cat breed that Justin Bieber had a few years ago. I believe it was a Savannah cat. It’s a sick thing to do, breeding dogs and cats just for the “cuteness” of it while condemning them many health problems and short lives.

I don't know who that is, but I added his tweet specifically because it says to recue not buy. What am I missing? Where does he support dog breeding when he says he rescued a dog off the road? One of us didn't comprehend what the tweet is saying. To be clear I 100% agree with what you are saying, and so does the tweet above.

I can't say any dog breed is not cute or playable but mixed strey dogs are just special. Guest
B*llshit. If you wanna do something, promote adoption instead of buying and persecute abandonments, but banning and eradicating breeds? I have a frenchie and I know her limitations, I can tell she is totally healthy and fine. So what if we educate instead of throwing sh*t?

Where in the article says anything about eradicating (as in the government trying to euthanase all individual disease-prone dogs)? - Dutch Agriculture Minister Piet Adema said he would seek to outlaw the ownership of the designer breeds and to ban the publication of photos of them in advertising or on social media. - Any ban would come in after a transition period, with people who currently own one of the pets allowed to keep them until the animal dies. It says it’s illegal to breed them that way going forward as it leads to health problems for the animals

I have seen lots of these animals and the problem is 99% the owner, that treat them as any other dog without having in mind their limitations. So I don't think these measures will make any impact, education is everything

Zander 14,944
This would be good news as I feel incredibly sorry for flat faced dogs and just can't understand why people buy them besides them "looking cute", very cruel to support it. What they should do is breed them back to how they were suppose to be with longer noses. I agree with adopting, but nothing wrong with buying from a breeder as long as they are reputable, responsible and do all the necessary health checks which can be just as ethical as adopting.
