The thread of the tour being cancelled was truly one of the most gut wrenching moments in this site’s history. JWT was bad as well of course but nothing can top the shock and scale of that massive global tour coming to an abrupt and tragic end in none other than her home country

What a ride it was. First RIR being cancelled and then the European dates being postponed and us being unsure if the second run of NA shows would follow. That run of shows going without a hitch, and then her just getting to Europe and having to cancel

Wow! I’m sure it was all so much going on and we really didn’t see it coming, but was there anything weird you noticed specifically about the show? Like were there weird long breaks anywhere in the show or anything??

Oh wow, good question. The whole thing is a bit of a blur, it was 10 years ago and I honestly don't remember much of it. I don't remember anything weird, and I left before Scheisse, which is when she injured herself.

Her getting a little more of a break following the conclusion of TMB first off, possibly pushing the album to the fall or at least pushing so much of the post-album promotion to the fall. That album was gonna hold on itself for a while no matter what. Maybe drop BTW (the single) at the end of the tour? Then….

BTW (single) - May 2011

The Edge of Glory - August 2011

Album - September 2011

Marry The Night - November 2011

Yoü and I (US) / Scheiße (WW) - February 2012

Hair - May 2012

May 2012 - April 2023 - Born This Way Ball (at least 3 weeks between each continent/ leg, no back to back shows sans multiple shows at the same venue)

I’m home and bored now so wanna add to this some lol.

No doubt! What a unique and surreal experience you got to have looking back now! :kara:

it might have deserved more by the GP, but I would never change anything about that era or how it went down. it was such a monumental moment in time for me personally, and I'm sure for a lot of others as well. I'm glad some of it is getting attention now, but nothing will compare to when it first came out.

  • 6 months later...

I think the success and longevity of Bloody Mary & Government Hooker proved how ahead of their time some of the songs on the album were and how WRONG Interscope was (as usual) for not pushing the riskier single choices.

In my (probably very unpopular opinion) they should have given a **** about trying to match the success of Katy and Rihanna (cause Gaga was setting the trends at that time and trying to follow trends was pretty much what caused ARTPOP to flop). She wanted to release 9 singles...why the **** not? Artists at their peak should be allowed to do exactly that. Of course not everything will be a success but good god...she was THE BIGGEST trendsetter at that time and YouTube was the biggest media platform at the time giving music videos and singles a whole new level of importance.

Before we move to the BORN THIS WAY era, I would like to present my idea of having Dance In The Dark as the final single from The Fame Monster with a video that serves as prelude to the Born This Way era. In the video Gaga would be a scientific experiment that escaped the laboratory...

2011.02.11 Born This Way

Spoiler

Video: Same as the released version
Premiere performance: The Grammys

2011.04.15 Marry The Night

Spoiler

Video: Directed by Francis Lawrence,
Premiere performance: The Ellen Degeneres Show

2011.05.17 Government Hooker (Promotional Single + Video)

Spoiler

This song is great and deserved a video. I think I would have decided on the single status of this song depending on how well it did as a promo single.
Video: Directed by Nick Knight and shot during the album cover session for the Born This Way album.

2011.05.23 BORN THIS WAY

2011.06.10 The Edge of Glory

Spoiler

Video: Directed by Joseph Khan, Same plot as the original scrapped video
Premiere performance: GNTM finale

2011.08.23 Heavy Metal Lover

Spoiler

This song was THE hit that got away. It's an updated Poker face and this song was unique but catchy at the same time. One of her all-time best songs!
Video: A video similar to the "Muse Factory" VMA commercial, directed by the same person but they weren't credited sadly.
Premiere performance: MTV VMAs

2011.10.28 Bloody Mary / Judas (Promotional Single + Video)

Spoiler

Neither of these would have been good single choices at that time but a promo single with a double video for Halloween? Genius!
Video: Directed by Haus of Gaga (with Laurieann Gibson)

2011.11.15 Hair

Spoiler

This song aged like milk but it was THE **** at that time and definitely a nice single for the colder season leading up to Christmas.
Video: Directed by Joseph Khan, The plot would have a Gaga-fied interpretation of the Rapunzel fairytale set in New York City.
Premiere performance: MTV EMAs

2012.01.06 Scheiße

Spoiler

I don't have much faith in this as a single. I think it would have done well in Europe but possibly not the US. If it did well in Europe, I would have sent this to the US later on and release Yoü and I as an airplay single in the meantime.
Video: Directed by Steven Klein, a dark interpretation of Alice in Wonderland story.
Premiere performance: ?

Yoü and I and Judas shouldn't have been main singles in my humble opinion. Judas had a great video but it was replaced rather quickly with the following single when it didn't catch on and it almost ruined the massive momentum she had just built from the lead single.

Yoü and I was already known and publicly performed for a long time when that single was released. Gaga herself apparently didn't want it as a single and I can totally see why. It was more of a bonus track on the album. It's absolutely not representative of the sound of the album. The song did well in the US but it really didn't do nearly as good in most of her other markets. It would have been a much better standalone single to promote the Monster Ball film. It shouldn't have been on the album imo.
