Many fans believe that Stupid Love was a weak lead single choice, while others believe that many other songs would have made a better fit to kickstart the Chromatica album era. Personally, I think Babylon is the perfect choice for a lead single. It's a new sound from Gaga, while still harkening back to the popular sounds of 90's house music that Chromatica tried to emulate. In my personal life, many of my friends who happen to be straight, casual Gaga fans have listed Babylon as one of Gaga's best songs. I think Babylon would've been a hit on the charts, bringing in a new wave of Gaga fans and Madonna-retaliators. Babylon's anthemic presence simply cannot be missed on a big sounding album like Chromatica.

Make it stupid!

Rain On Me is the obvious pick but it was a hit waiting to happen so they made the right choice to make that a 2nd single to take advantage of one lead single followed by a stronger second single. Stupid Love is weak but it was the right song I think, it's still catchy. Alice, Replay and Babylon are great tracks but not sure they'd have been strong as lead, these are very fan faves.

I think 911 would've been an interesting lead single, followed by Rain On Me, Sour Candy and Babylon.

Babylon, ugh I think it would have been an iconic hit. Every reactor, most from the GP, that I've watched completely love it and say it's a stand out. It's catchy, gay, camp, amazing pop like Stupid Love but in my opinion it comes across way more mature and confident. It would have been a huge hit, especially with a slay performance and video with iconic choreo (and the haus labs + bree verison for remixes :ohwell:)

Sour Candy. The collaboration between Gaga and Blackpink was so unexpected so everyone would talk about the song and give it a listen.

Also Sour Candy is incredibly catchy.

as much as I love Babylon and feel like it's actually probably the strongest single option on the album aside from ROM, there's something about Stupid Love that screams lead single. i feel like in different circumstances, if clubs had been open and early 2020 had been a joyous time instead of the start of the pandemic, it would've done much better and people's opinions of it wouldn't be quite so harsh.

also, i really don't think any other song would've done any better in SL's position. Even ROM struggled and didn't quite live up to its potential if the pandemic hadn't happened. Like, we can play these games all day long, but I don't think any of the songs would've smashed the way we thought it would at the time

SL is probably the best choice for a lead but i'd select Sour Candy as a potential lead too

even though Replay is amazing, it deserves to remain a hidden gem

mother, what must i do?
